Why Hallmark’s Ryan Paevey decided to take a break from acting

Fans of Hallmark star Ryan Paevey were surprised when he announced he was taking a break from acting,

In a statement to a fan website, the actor cited hacked bank accounts, stolen money, and a desire to be near his mother during a health crisis for his break.

“The industry hasn’t felt like the place for me in quite some time now, and my mental health has suffered from it,” Paevey, 39, told heavy.com. “It’s taken me to a bit of a dark place, made me into a version of myself I don’t like very much. I’ve vented some of my anger and frustration publicly, and for that, I apologize.”

    Taking a break

“I’ve had bank accounts hacked, money embezzled, investments stolen….things that, while difficult, can be recovered from,” he said. “But after all that, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Ryan Paevey finds romance in new Hallmark movie

Ryan Paevey stars with Jessica Parker Kennedy in the new Hallmark movie Under the Christmas Sky. The film will premiere this weekend as part of the 2023 Countdown to Christmas lineup.

    New Hallmark movie

In Under the Christmas Sky, Jessica Parker Kennedy plays Kat, an aspiring astronaut whose career is brought to a halt when a car accident leaves her with a blind spot. She returns home to see her family, who do their best to cheer her up with Christmas activities such as cookie-making and tree decorating.

When nothing lifts her spirits, her brother (played by Andrew Bushell) suggests she get involved with the local planetarium. She agrees to consult on an exhibit and is assigned to work with David (played by Ryan Paevey), a curator who is less than thrilled to have an outsider interfering.

Though Kat and David get off to a rough start, they soon find common ground amid the magic of Christmas and their shared love of space. Their exhibit is such a success they come up with another project — a Santa tracking party on Christmas Eve.

As their time working together comes to a close, Kat is offered a job in another state. Their new connection and growing feelings for one another are put to the test as they try to decide just what the future could hold. According to a synopsis from Hallmark, “…A little Christmas spirit will help these two find their way to happiness on Christmas Day.”
