The tweet came in response to a fan asking when they could expect the next Hailey Dean movie.

The news shocked fans, as well as co-star Viv Leacock, who weighed in with his own tweet.

“I’m very disappointed to find out that we don’t get to keep doing this series of magic movies. @hallmarkchannel @hallmarkmovie I think we had some magic with this one. Myself and @Kellie_Martin heard from folks all around the world about how much they loved our show.”

The series

The first of the films, Hailey Dean Mystery: Murder With Love, premiered on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries in 2016. Based on the best-selling series by Nancy Grace, Martin played a DA prosecutor who quits her job to become a marriage counselor and therapist. She ended up solving a case with the help of her friend Fincher Garland, played by Leacock.

Eight movies followed: Hailey Dean Mystery: Deadly Estate, Hailey Dean Mystery: Dating is Murder, Hailey Dean Mystery: 2+2=Murder, Hailey Dean Mystery: A Marriage Made for Murder, Hailey Dean Mystery: A Will to Kill, Hailey Dean Mystery: Death on Duty, Hailey Dean Mystery: A Prescription for Murder, and Hailey Dean Mystery: Killer Sentence.

The final movie in the series aired in May 2019. Since then, fans have been checking in on social media, asking when they can expect the movie in the series.

The fallout

Crown Media has not released a statement about the end of the series. Fans, however, were vocal about their disappointment.

“So bummed to hear! You and @VivLeacock are magic,” one wrote on Twitter.

Another suggested another network might want the series.

“@GACfamilyTV Hailey Dean Mysteries will be great on your network.”
