New Signed, Sealed, Delivered movie set to premiere on Hallmark

POstables, the moment you have been waiting for is finally here: Signed, Sealed, Delivered is back with a new movie. Signed, Sealed, Delievered: A Tale of Three Letters will premiere this weekend on Hallmark Mystery (the network formerly known as Hallmark Movies and Mysteries).

“The Postal Detectives at the Dead Letter Office return to wrap up the Great Mailbox Breach of 2017—and some personal business as well,” reads a promotion on  Hallmark Mystery’s Facebook page.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: A Tale of Three Letters

Fans have waited three years for a new installation in Hallmark’s longest-running mystery series. The last movie to premiere, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Vows We Have Made (2021), saw Shane (Kristin Booth) and Oliver (Eric Mabius) tie the knot with help from Rita (Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe) and Norman (Geoff Gustafson).

In Signed, Sealed, Delivered: A Tale of Three Letters, the group is asked to find the intended recipients of three dead letters. But the POstables are distracted by their own problems. Shane and Oliver grapple with finding their footing as a married couple. Rita is anxious to start a family but Norman finds himself distracted.

    Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Signed, Sealed, Delivered first came to the small screen in 2013 as a television series. Written by Martha Williamson — who also created the Touched by an Angel series — the show followed four employees of the United States Postal Service’s Dead Letter Office.

Oliver (played by Eric Mabius), Shane (played by Kristin Booth), Rita (played by Crystal Lowe), and Norman (played by Geoff Gustafson) were tasked with tracking down intended recipients of undeliverable mail.

After a successful first season, the show was changed from a 1-hour episode format to a 2-hour film format. Twelve films were released over the next seven years:

Signed, Sealed, Delivered For Christmas (2014)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From Paris With Love (2015)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Truth Be Told (2015)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Impossible Dream (2015)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From the Heart (2016)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: One in a Million (2016)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Lost Without You (2016)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Higher Ground (2017)

    We’re waiting….

Fans were left hanging following the premiere of The Vows We Have Made in 2021. For years, Hallmark would not say if a new movie would be made in the series. POstables began a campaign to raise awareness, sending then-CEO Wonya Lucas letters and emails urging her to keep the series going.

Lucas acknowledged their efforts without revealing if a new movie was coming.

During a red carpet interview at a 2023 ceremony for the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, Lucas told The Sun that the network was working on a comeback for Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

“We’re pretty excited about that,” she said and added, “I will tell you, the POstables are alive and well. They send me notes, they send me pictures, every time I go to my office, they’re there….So, we are really listening to our fans and leaning into the fandom.”
Series star Eric Mabius also mentioned something during a 2023 interview with Australia’s Today Extra. When he was asked if there was a new project he was working on, he replied, “There is, and what a wonderful project.”

    New movie

In March 2024, Hallmark finally announced that a new movie was in the works. Some fans were skeptical at first but when the stars themselves began posting on social media from the set of the film.

Over the years, Hallmark execs have dropped more than a few hints about the return of the series.

He made reference to Martha Williamson, the series creator, and said, “It’s just brilliant because it’s a mixture of romance and comedy and heartfelt intent without being syrupy.”

    Details

Though Hallmark shared the news, the network said little about the films, apart from the fact that the first will premiere in 2024. Eric Mabius responded to the announcement with a joke.

“WHUUUTTTTTT?!?” he wrote. “Nobody told ME?!?”

Hallmark has not yet announced when the new movie will air. We will update it as soon as more information becomes available.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered star is becoming a director

One of the stars of the Hallmark series Signed, Sealed, Delivered, will soon be taking a turn behind the camera. Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe will direct the Hallmark movie Dream Moms, becoming the first woman to take part in the network’s new Make Her Mark Women’s Directing Program.

“The cat is officially out of the bag,” Lowe wrote in an Instagram post. “I’ve been learning SO much these last few weeks. So grateful to be in the @hallmarkchannel family. And for guidance from @jessicanoelleharmon and to @ashleywilliamsandcompany for being such a champion of women and creating the program.”

    Making her mark

The Make her Mark program is the initiative of actress and filmmaker Ashley Williams. The actress, who has starred in the Hallmark movies Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater, Christmas in Evergreen, and Two Tickets to Paradise recently directed the Paramount Network movie A Nashville Country Christmas.

“As a female filmmaker, I know all too well the feeling of being told, ‘no,’ and I am absolutely thrilled to partner with Hallmark on Make Her Mark, a program that says, ‘yes,’ by empowering, training, and supporting women directors and giving them much-deserved opportunities to bring their creative vision to the screen,” Williams said in a statement. “Crystal blows me away with her intelligence, experience, and willingness to roll up her sleeves and jump right into the business of learning and making movies. I look forward to that moment when she is a mentor herself and joins me in paying it forward and opening the door for the many women who will come after her.”

    New movie

Crystal Lowe will shadow Jessica Harmon — who directed the Hallmark movies A Paris Proposal and Rip in Time — on her new film Dream Moms. Lowe will then have a chance to direct her own project.

“Crystal has worked with us for years in front of the camera,” said Lisa Hamilton Daly, Hallmark Media’s executive vice president of programming, in a statement. “Her professionalism, creative instincts, and enthusiastic interest in the filmmaking process made it clear that she was the ideal candidate to help us inaugurate the program.”

  • 10 things you didn’t know about Signed, Sealed, Delivered star Eric Mabius

10 things you didn’t know about Signed, Sealed, Delivered star Eric Mabius

POstables have been on edge ever since Hallmark dropped a hint that a new Signed, Sealed, Delivered movie might be in the works. Fans of the series have been waiting since 2021 for a new film.

With that in mind, here are some seriously cool facts about Eric Mabius, who plays Oliver O’Toole in the series. Here they are, in no particular order:

RELATED NEWS: Hallmark drops a hint about a new Signed, Sealed, Delivered movie

    1. He grew up in New England

Mabius was born in Harrisburg, Pa., but grew up in the small town of Warren, Mass.

“We didn’t have much money, so we baked our own bread and picked blueberries to make jam,” he said in an interview with HGTV. We heated our house with a wood stove and cut our own wood.

The family moved to New Jersey for a few years, where his father worked as a historical preservationist at the living history museum Allaire Village. They eventually moved back to Massachusetts. Mabius graduated from Amherst-Pelham Regional High School and earned his degree from Sarah Lawrence College.

    2. He’s a nature boy at heart

Mabius currently lives in what he describes as “the middle of nowhere.” (It’s actually Massachusetts.)

He regularly posts photos and videos of his trail runs and hikes on Instagram, showing fans everything from the waterfall on his property to the flora and fauna he sees on his regular hikes.

    3. He married a girl he met in high school

Mabius wed interior designer Ivy Sherman in 2006. The two met in a health class at Amhert-Pelham Regional High School. Though they never dated in school, they reconnected years after graduation.

“If someone told me I was going to marry someone from high school, I would’ve told them they’re out of their minds!” he said during a 2008 interview with US Weekly.

But when Mabius was working on a project in New Orleans a friend put him in touch with Sherman.

    4. His high school classmates voted him “Most Dramatic Girly”

We’re not even sure what that means.

    5. He was voted one of the “sexiest men alive” by People magazine in 2006

    ‘Nuff said.

Eric Mabius in the 2002 movie Resident Evil. (Image: Constantin Film)

    6. He used to compete in luge

If you’re unfamiliar with the sport, it involves a single athlete or a pair of athletes hurtling down a twisting, curving track using only their muscles to help steer. It’s a fast and furious sport: speeds on artificial tracks can reach 90 miles (140 km) an hour.

He was named an honorary captain for the US luge team for the 2010 Winter Olympics along with astronaut Scott Parazynski.

    7. He’s an action-movie star

Though Mabius is known to Hallmark fans as the impeccably dressed, serious-minded Oliver on Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Mabius has played his fair share of shoot-em-up action dudes.

In the 2000 movie The Crow: Salvation, Mabius played a man who gets framed for his girlfriend’s murder and then executed. He is resurrected by the superhero The Crow and tracks down the men who killed his girlfriend. Pretty gritty stuff.

In 2002, he starred alongside Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil, an action movie based loosely on the video game of the same name. He reprised his role in the 2004 sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse. There were zombies, commandos, shooting, and viruses. A far, far cry from the serenity of the Dead Letter Office.

    8. He starred in the ABC series Ugly Betty

Okay, you probably already knew this one. But did you know that the show was based on Fernando Gaitán’s Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea and that it won close to 30 major awards? Well, it did. Mabius starred as polished media empire heir Daniel Meade opposite America Ferrera’s adorable Betty Suarez in the series, which ran from 2006 to 2010.

    9. In 2007, he was named Glamour magazine’s Man of the Year.

    For obvious reasons.

    10. He is on the Cameo app

On his Instagram, Mabius makes mention of the fact that he’s on the Cameo app. This means fans can order a personalized video message from him.

Hallmark exec hints at return of Good Witch and Signed, Sealed, Delivered

A top Hallmark executive made a cryptic comment at a recent industry event hinting at the return of Hallmark’s Good Witch and Signed, Sealed, Delivered movie series. During an appearance at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Lisa Hamilton-Daly, executive vice president of programming at Crown Media Family Networks, told reporters the network was considering what to do with several of its franchises.

“As far as Good Witch, I think we’re always interested in thinking about what we can do with our most popular IP,” Hamilton-Daly said. “I can’t announce anything specific about that. And that also holds for Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”

    Return of Good Witch?

Fans were shocked by the comment. In July 2021, Hallmark announced it was canceling the beloved TV series Good Witch with only three episodes left in Season 7.

“Good Witch has enchanted viewers for over a decade,” said Randy Pope, Hallmark’s senior vice president of programming and development, in a statement from the network. “We…extend our gratitude and thanks to the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work.”

Since then, fans have worked tirelessly to get the show back on the air. In addition to launching campaigns on social media, they have approached Netflix and even a new network started by former Crown Media CEO Bill Abbott, asking for someone to pick up where Hallmark left off.

Hamilton-Daly’s comment sent off a wave of speculation among Goodies about whether the network was hinting at bringing the series back.

“Yes. PLEASE,” wrote one fan on the Facebook page Save Good Witch.

“There’s an established audience base and built-in anticipation so what are you waiting for?” another wrote.

    Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Hamilton-Daly’s words also set off speculation among POstables (fans of Signed, Sealed, Delivered) that another movie might be in the works. The latest in the 12-movie franchise, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Vows We Have Made aired in October 2021.

Created by Touched By An Angel’s Martha Williamson, the movies followed the work of four employees in the postal service’s Lost Letters Department. The films star Eric Mabius, Kristin Booth, Crystal Lowe, and Geoff Gustafson.
