Fans of the Hallmark series Good Witch are hoping to find a new home for their favorite show. Over the weekend, “Goodies,” as they refer to themselves, began a social media and email campaign to convince former Hallmark exec Bill Abbott to pick up the show for one of his new networks.

Under the hashtag #SaveGoodWitch, fans posted graphics asking Abbott to consider bringing the show back.

“We need the king of Hallmark to save Good Witch,” one graphic read, with a smiling picture of Abbott below.

“Tweet like your lives depended on it!” read several others.

Good Witch was cancelled abruptly in July. Fans were devastated, and mounted a campaign to get Hallmark to reconsider its decision.

Twitter campaign

Since then, fans have been hitting up Twitter at 9/8 c on Sundays, which was the show’s regular time slot. In addition to tweeting images of their favorite characters and graphics featuring photos from the show, fans have also been tagging Netflix, in the hope that the streaming service will pick up the show.

They were inspired by fans of the NBC series Manifest, who mounted a similar campaign when the show was canceled in June. On August 28, Netflix announced it would bring the show back for a fourth and final season.

Good Witch fans have not given up hope that Netflix will pick up the show. But they see another possibility now that Abbott is back in television production.

On Friday, Abbott announced that his company, GAC Media, had purchased two cable networks and planned to begin family-friendly content at the end of September.

A new possibility

In a statement released to the press, fan Lisa Gursky-Choi congratulated Abbott on his new venture, and implored him to consider rebooting the show.

“Good Witch means everything to #goodies, as they are affectionately called, because the theme of the show has always been about people being kind to each other,” Gursky-Choi wrote. “Every episode provides a life lesson and gives the audience some sort of good feeling and inspiration.”

She praised Abbott for his work as the head of Crown Media Family Networks.

“Bill was an amazing pioneer on the Hallmark Channel,” she said. “The Hallmark Channel has never been the same since Bill’s departure.”

Abbott’s departure

Abbott left the company in January 2020. Neither he nor the company would comment on the reasons for his departure. In July 2020, Wonya Lucas became the new head of Crown Media Family Networks.

After leaving Hallmark, Abbott joined forces with Dallas-based Hicks Equity Partners LLC to create GAC Media, which launched in June 2021. Last week, the company announced it had purchased the Great American Country network from Discovery Inc. Bloomberg reported the deal was worth $90 million.

The company announced it would begin airing family-friendly content on two different networks, GAC Family and GAC Living.

A perfect fit

Fans such as Gursky-Choi say that Good Witch would be the perfect fit for the new networks.

“We desperately need this show in a world that seems like nothing makes sense,” she wrote. “We need light, love, comfort and joy. We need our Good Witch back!”

The full statement from Lisa Gursky-Choi:

Congratulations to Bill Abbott and the launch of his new venture GAC Family and GAC Living. Bill was an amazing pioneer on the Hallmark Channel and why the Network was so beloved while he was at the helm. The Hallmark Channel has never been the same since Bill’s departure and that of several top Executives including the talented Michelle Vicary.
I feel very happy Bill will continue his legacy of bringing wholesome and fun entertainment to viewers that includes his overall vision to provide great story telling and inspiration which is greatly desired by families in television programming today.

With the shocking and sudden cancellation of Hallmark’s Original Series Good Witch in July, it would be the hope and dream of millions of fans that the number one rated Good Witch Franchise could find a new home with the respected Bill Abbott and his new network. Fans will do anything to see this inspirational and captivating multi generational family show continue on. The character of Cassie Nightingale is still so popular even after 13 years played by beautiful and talented Catherine Bell and the amazing and loved James Denton who started with the series 7 years ago then discovered thankfully by Bill to play the popular Sam Radford while James was Co-Hosting the American Humane Hero Dog Awards.

Good Witch means everything to #goodies as they are affectionately called because the theme of the show has always been about people being kind to each other. Every episode provides a life lesson and gives the audience some sort of good feeling and inspiration. At the end of the day, no matter what is going on in the town of Middleton, you know at the end of the show, things will always work out! There are terrific actors on the show who each in their own right have different personalities and beliefs but everyone respects each other on Good Witch and as they have always said, there’s nothing wrong with believing in things that can’t always be explained.

The actors on Good Witch are a true family and a wonderful example of how we should treat one another. If I were a CEO with a fresh start and knew the background and history of Good Witch, I would jump at the chance to bring along old fans/friends to my network and introduce a whole new audience that will fall in love with this magical show.

Catherine Bell and James Denton have been quoted many times as saying how proud there were to be acting partners and part of the Good Witch Franchise because as parents, they loved the fact that Good Witch was a family show and it was important to them to provide a fun way that parents could watch a show like this with their children and family members of any age!

Please Bill, consider adding Good Witch to your new family network and let the magic for us continue! We desperately need this show in a world that seems like nothing makes sense. We need light, love, comfort and joy! We need our Good Witch back!

Thank you for your consideration!

Respectfully,

Lisa Gursky-Choi, Good Witch Fan
