A Hallmark exec recently spoke about the possibility of a spinoff of the network’s hit series When Calls the Heart. But she made it clear that a spinoff would likely only occur once When Calls the Heart comes to an end.

In an interview with Variety, Lisa Hamilton-Daly said that company executives have considered creating a spinoff.

“It’s hard to think, who would you peel off?” said Daly, who is executive vice president of programming at Hallmark Media. “Erin [Krakow] is really central to the show, as many of the cast members are. It’s possible, were that show to reach a conclusion, then we might think about what to do, but at this point, we plan to keep going.”

When Calls the Heart spinoff

Hallmark launched a When Calls the Heart spinoff once before. When Hope Calls premiered in 2019 on Hallmark Movies Now. Starring Jocelyn Hudon and Morgan Kohan, the series followed two characters who were introduced during the 2018 Christmas special When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Wish (Blessing).

In the new series, two sisters reunited in adulthood opened an orphanage in the small town of Brookfield.

The show only ran for one season on Hallmark. Rival network Great American Family picked it up for a two-part Christmas special in 2021.

Series finale

When Calls the Heart premiered in 2014 on Hallmark Channel. Based on a a series of books by Canadian author Janette Oke, the series followed a privileged young woman (played by Erin Krakow), who moves to a small coal-mining community to teach school.

The 11th season of the popular show is set to premiere in April. According to Nielsen ratings, Season 10 was the most-watched cable program on television, bringing in 3 million unduplicated viewers per episode.

One of the show’s co-creators said he would like to keep the series running indefinitely.

“We’re going to try to catch up with ‘The Simpsons,’ which is in season 42 or something like that,” said Brian Bird at a September 2023 gathering of When Calls the Heart fans.

“As I’ve said many times over the last decade, you Hearties are the reason for the show,” he said. “I think one of the big reasons that the show is still going strong is all of you.”
