  • The five best Victor Webster Hallmark romance movies

The five best Victor Webster Hallmark romance movies

Over the years, actor Victor Webster has graced the small screen as a soap opera star, a sitcom guest, and the leading man in 18 movies for Hallmark. With such a long list of Hallmark credits to his name, it’s hard to choose the top five. But we made the sacrifice, watching every single Hallmark movie he has made to come up with the best.

    Victor Webster

Who is Victor Webster? The actor was born in 1973 in Calgary, Alberta. When he was 13 his family moved to San Clemente, California. He took up martial arts and eventually became an instructor. After attending Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California, he moved to Los Angeles to become a stock broker.

While in LA he began to pursue acting and eventually landed the role of  Nicholas Alamain on the NBC daytime soap Days of Our Lives. He went on to appear in the TV shows Sex and the City, Charmed, Castle, Baywatch, Reba, Criminal Minds, Bones, Drop Dead Diva, Chesapeake Shores, and Workin’ Moms.

    Hallmark movies

His first Hallmark romance movie was the 2012 film Puppy Love, which co-starred Candace Cameron Bure. He went on to co-star with Danica McKellar in the Matchmaker Mysteries and played opposite Alison Sweeney in The Wedding Veil series.

The following is a countdown of his top five films for Hallmark:

    5. A Harvest Wedding (2017)

Jill Wagner starred in this Hallmark romance about a New York City wedding planner hired to coordinate a wedding in her small Massachusetts hometown. The bride is set on having her wedding at the family farm, which is run by her older brother (played by Victor Webster) who also happens to be Wagner’s ex-boyfriend.

The gorgeous backdrop of autumn in New England (or at least autumn in a BC town passing as New England) makes this one of our favorites.

    4. Five-Star Christmas (2020)

Victor Webster co-starred with Bethany Joy Lenz in this hilarious Christmas comedy about a family that tries to influence a travel writer’s review of their inn by posing as guests and talking the place up.

    3. Summer Villa (2016)

In this romantic comedy, Victor Webster plays a celebrity chef who retreats to a French villa for some time off after receiving a horrible review. He meets a romance novelist (played by Hilarie Burton) and sparks fly.

    2. A Christmas Cookie Catastrophe (2022)

We love this one because it features Victor Webster with Rachel Boston, another of our Hallmark favorites). In the movie, Victor Webster plays a baker who helps a woman recreate her grandmother’s cookie recipe.

    1. One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery (2024)

What can we say? We love a good mystery and Victor and Alison have such great chemistry. Many Hannah Swensen fans were devastated when Hannah (Sweeney) broke things off with her fiancé (played by Cameron Mathison), who had been a constant throughout the series.

But when Hallmark announced that Victor Webster would be brought on board the series as a new potential love interest, fans were thrilled. After all, Sweeney and Webster played well opposite each other in The Wedding Veil series so it stood to reason they could re-create the magic in a cozy mystery.

And recreate the magic they did. Webster nailed it as Eden Lake’s by-the-book prosecuting attorney Chad Norton, who ends up going head-to-head with Hannah (Sweeney) when one of her colleagues is found dead under mysterious circumstances.

  • Everything you need to know about Nelson Wong, the actor who has starred in more than 30 Hallmark movies

Everything you need to know about Nelson Wong, the actor who has starred in more than 30 Hallmark movies

Over the years, Nelson Wong has appeared in 31 Hallmark movies. The actor, whose first role with the network was in the 2006 film All She Wants For Christmas, says he has a fondness for the stories Hallmark tells.

“Ultimately, they are human stories,” Wong said during a recent interview with TV Cheddar. “…These barriers we create, money, class or race or geography, they dissolve when we get to the heart, which is what Hallmark is so good at.”

    Nelson Wong

Any self-respecting Hallmarkie has seen Nelson Wong in at least one movie. He has starred alongside such Hallmark greats as Paul Greene, Jen Lilley, Ryan Paevey, Taylor Cole, and Ali Liebert.

He’s had roles in two different Hallmark mystery series, appearing with Jesse Metcalfe in Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries and Carlos and Alexa PenaVega in Picture Perfect Mysteries.

He’s a staple in Hallmark’s annual Countdown to Christmas lineup. He can be seen in fan favorites including A Christmas Detour, Christmas at the Plaza, A Timeless Christmas, A Christmas Treasure, and Long Lost Christmas.

    About the actor

Nelson Wong moved to Canada from New Zealand at the age of six. A huge fan of television and movies, the actor would impersonate characters such as Mr. Belvedere and C-3PO for his classmates. He said he always knew he wanted to be an actor.

Though he didn’t have any formal training, Wong was persistent in his pursuit of a career in the business.

“I think I listened carefully to the pitfalls that make a lot of people quit,” he said during a recent interview with TV Cheddar. “It’s a life of job interviews and you’re not really guaranteed a career.”

One of Wong’s first professional roles was in Third Man Out, a movie directed by Ron Oliver that starred Chad Allen. Wong played a character named Kenny Kwon. He did such a good job that Oliver continued to cast him in movies.

    The legendary Kenny Kwon

Whenever Wong was cast in a new project by Oliver, the character’s name would be changed to Kenny Kwon. A quick glance at Won’g credit shows that he has played a character named “Kenny” or “Kenny Kwon” 17 times.

Though Wong has had an impressive career with the network, he has also worked extensively outside the network.

In a career that has spanned more than 20 years, Wong has had roles in Riverdale, Arrow, Psych, Once Upon a Time, and Van Helsing.

He even teaches acting at the University of British Columbia.

Over the years, Kenny Kwon has had a variety of professions., including DJ, bartender, airline attendant, and doctor.

    Representation

Wong says he has seen a lot of changes in the industry since he first began acting in 1999. In the beginning, when he sent out photos and resumes to agents, they all had the same two questions.

“Almost uniformly they would ask, ‘Do you know the accent? Can you do kung fu?’” he said.

  • Why Hallmark’s Ryan Paevey decided to take a break from acting

Why Hallmark’s Ryan Paevey decided to take a break from acting

Fans of Hallmark star Ryan Paevey were surprised when he announced he was taking a break from acting,

In a statement to a fan website, the actor cited hacked bank accounts, stolen money, and a desire to be near his mother during a health crisis for his break.

“The industry hasn’t felt like the place for me in quite some time now, and my mental health has suffered from it,” Paevey, 39, told heavy.com. “It’s taken me to a bit of a dark place, made me into a version of myself I don’t like very much. I’ve vented some of my anger and frustration publicly, and for that, I apologize.”

    Ryan Paevey

A native of California, Paevey was spotted and signed by a modeling agent when he was a teenager. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, he said that after high school he was doing a few shoots and tending bar to make ends meet when he landed the role on General Hospital.

“My managers were like, ‘Quit your day job. You got a thing,’” he said.

Paevey said he learned about acting on the job. When his run on General Hospital came to an end, he didn’t know what he would do next. That’s when Hallmark stepped in.

    Paevey on Hallmark

The actor’s first role for Hallmark Channel was in the 2016 movie Unleashing Mr. Darcy. In this modern take on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Paevey starred opposite Cindy Busby as Donovan Darcy, a dog show judge.

He went on to star in Harvest Love (2017), Marrying Mr. Darcy (2018), Hope at Christmas (2018), From Friend to Fiance (2019), A Summer Romance (2019), Christmas at the Plaza (2019), Matching Hearts (2020), A Timeless Christmas (2020), Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (2021), A Little Daytime Drama (2021), Coyote Creek Christmas (2021), Two Tickets to Paradise (2022), A Fabled Holiday (2022), Fourth Down and Love (2023), and Under the Christmas Sky (2023).

    Taking a break

Paevey told fans that a number of things led to his decision to take a break from acting.

“I’ve had bank accounts hacked, money embezzled, investments stolen….things that, while difficult, can be recovered from,” he said. “But after all that, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. I left Los Angeles to be closer to her, and feel the need to devote more of my time, energy, and resources closer to home.”

Paevey told fans he would be focusing on his jewelry-making business, Fortunate Wanderer, and staying in touch through his newsletter.

“I have so, so much to be grateful for,” he said. “I am grateful to this industry as a whole, I am grateful to General Hospital for giving a green actor a chance and tolerating his learning curve, to Hallmark for changing my life and taking me to places that have become my favorite on Earth, to my managers for seeing something in a grunt with no resume and helping to architect a whole new trajectory and life for him, and to all of YOU who have helped raise up this handyman and bartender and taking him on a decade-long adventure the likes of which he never imagined.”

    Hallmark responds

A spokesperson for Hallmark Media said the company wishes Paevey well.

“We’re very sorry for all that Ryan is going through and our thoughts are with him in his effort to take care of himself as well as his mother and we wish him well,” read Hallmark’s statement.

    Andie MacDowell as Del Landry

No stranger to Hallmark audiences, MacDowell played Judge Olivia Lockhart on the Hallmark series Cedar Cove from 2013 to 2015. Based on the books by Debbie Macomber, the show followed the residents of a small town on Puget Sound in Washington State. The ensemble cast also included Sarah Smyth, Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Brennan Elliott, Barbara Niven, Cindy Busby, and Jesse Hutch.

A native of Gaffney, South Carolina, MacDowell worked as a model before being cast in the 1984 movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Audiences never got to hear her voice in the movie as the producers decided her South Carolina accent was too pronounced and dubbed her lines using Glenn Close.

She had a small role in St. Elmo’s Fire but her breakout role was in Steven Soderbergh’s 1989 film Sex, Lies, and Videotape. MacDowell’s performance was so impressive she was nominated for a Golden Globe. She went on to star in Green Card with Gerard Depardieu, Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, and Four Weddings and a Funeral with Hugh Grant.

    Chyler Leigh as Kat Landry

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Chyler Leigh began modeling as a teenager. Her breakout role was in the 2001 comedy Not Another Teen Movie. In 2007, she joined the cast of the hit series Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Lexie Grey, the half-sister of Ellen Pompeo’s character, Dr. Meredith Grey. From 2015 to 2021, Leigh appeared in the DC comics superhero series Supergirl.

Leigh has been an outspoken advocate for people affected by mental illness. At the age of 29, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has used her social media platform to help others struggling with mental health issues.

Soon after Hallmark announced that The Way Home was coming to TV, Leigh shared an Instagram post saying she was excited about the show.

“Took time off to work hard on myself,” she wrote. “It’s not been easy. Letting go of the past can be quick or a lifelong journey. But it’s a journey that is so so worth the climb. My thanks to those who have helped me along the way. I’m standing on a new mountain top and am so excited for what’s on the horizon. @hallmarkchannel #TheWayHome #KatLandry … here we go.”

    Sadie Laflamme-Snow as Alice

Newcomer Sadie Laflamme-Snow will portray Alice, a rebellious teen who becomes enthralled by the mystery she finds in her mother’s hometown.

A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s acting program, Laflamme-Snow has appeared in the TV series Game On and the movies Love Triangle Nightmare and Sinister Switch.

    Evan Williams as Elliott

Actor Evan Williams will portray the role of Elliott Augustine, Kat’s childhood friend who teaches science at the town’s high school. Though he is not in many of the promotional materials Hallmark has released for the show, Elliott plays a crucial role in helping the Landry women deal with past circumstances.

He also has a major crush on Kat, meaning there’s a potential for romance. (Yay!)

Hallmark audiences might recognize Williams as Corey from the Full House re-boot Fuller House. He also starred in the romantic comedies A Date by Christmas Eve and Christmas Takes Flight.

The Way Home will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, January 15 at 9/8c.

  • Five fascinating facts you didn’t know about When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow

Five fascinating facts you didn’t know about When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow

For the past 10 years, Erin Krakow has starred on Hallmark’s longest-running original series When Calls the Heart. The Philadelphia native has also starred in the Hallmark movies A Cookie Cutter Christmas, Sense, Sensibility & Snowmen, Finding Father Christmas, Engaging Father Christmas, and Marrying Father Christmas. Here are a few fascinating facts about the actress:

    1. Erin Krakow is a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City

Krakow became serious about acting at a young age and attended the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida. After graduation, she moved to New York to study drama at Juilliard, which has trained many of the country’s finest actors. Fellow graduates include Robin Williams, Kelsey Grammer, Jessica Chastain, Patti LuPone, Kevin Kline, and Adam Driver.

Erin Krakow as Specialist Tanya Gabriel on the TV series Army Wives. Krakow met fellow Hallmark star Catherine Bell on the set of the show. (Image: ABC.)

    2. When Calls the Heart was not her first television show

Before she took on the role of Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton, Krakow played Army Specialist Tanya Gabriel in the television series Army Wives.

The show also starred Catherine Bell, who played Cassie Nightingale in Hallmark’s Good Witch film and television series.

Krakow told a reporter that she considers Bell a good friend.

“I LOVED working with Catherine Bell on ARMY WIVES,” Krakow said. “She was so kind to me and has become a dear friend! She’s also incredibly talented!”

    3. She wasn’t the original Elizabeth

Poppy Drayton as Elizabeth Thatcher in the Hallmark original movie When Calls the Heart. When Hallmark developed the story into a series, Erin Krakow was cast in the role. (Image: Hallmark Media)

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Krakow playing the role of Elizabeth (Thatcher) Thornton. However, the actress wasn’t originally cast as in the part.

When Hallmark Media (then called Crown Media) decided to make a film version of the first book in Janette Oke’s Canadian West series, the director chose actress Poppy Drayton to play the role of Elizabeth. The British actress did a great job, but when it came time to cast the TV series, the director went with Krakow.

In an interview, Krakow said she hopes to work with Drayton at some point.

“I’ll always feel connected to Poppy through Elizabeth,” Krakow said. “Hopefully we’ll get to work on something together soon. That would be special.”

    4. She has played a bride onscreen three times (so far…)

Erin Krakow in the 2018 Hallmark Channel movie Marrying Father Christmas. (Image: Hallmark Media)
Erin Krakow in the 2018 Hallmark Channel movie Marrying Father Christmas. (Image: Hallmark Media)

The first time Krakow got married onscreen was during Season 5 of When Calls the Heart, when her character, Elizabeth, married Mountie Jack Thornton (played by Daniel Lissing). In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lissing said the pair made a request to write the vows themselves.

“Erin and I had sat down together… and I talked to her about the potential of writing our own vows, as Jack and as Elizabeth,” he said. “So we took that to the producers and they were like, ‘Well, yeah, you guys know the characters better than anyone else does,’ and so we actually wrote our vows.”

Later that year, Krakow played a bride in the Hallmark Channel movie Marrying Father Christmas, when her character, Miranda Chester, married Ian McAndrick (played by Niall Matter).

Krakow also played a bride in the 2021 Hallmark movie It Was Always You, though her character ended up not getting married to her original fiancé. In the romantic comedy, Krakow’s character, Elizabeth, realizes she has feelings for the groom’s brother (in a tasteful, Hallmark-y way), who was played by Tyler Hynes.

The actress requested Hynes for the part, and the two became good friends.

“…You work with some people and it feels very natural and like you’ve known that person or have been working with them for a long time,” Krakow said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “And that was the case between the two of us. Tyler is an incredible actor. He’s very collaborative. He’s always wanting to elevate the work.”

    5. The first scene she ever filmed for When Calls the Heart was with Lori Loughlin

In the pilot episode of When Calls the Heart, Elizabeth accidentally burned down the teacher’s cottage where she was supposed to live. A local widow named Abigail Stanton (played by Loughlin) took Elizabeth in, and the two soon became good friends.

Her second scene was with Daniel Lissing, and Krakow said she had a feeling that it was the start of something special.

Hallmark Channel has not yet released a premiere date for Season 10 of When Calls the Heart. In 2022, Season 9 premiered in March.

  • A mid-life crisis leads to love in new Hallmark movie starring Teri Hatcher

A mid-life crisis leads to love in new Hallmark movie starring Teri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher and James Tupper find love when they least expect it in the new Hallmark movie Mid-Love Crisis. The movie, which will premiere as part of Hallmark’s fall lineup, also stars June Laporte, who plays Rachel Thom on When Calls the Heart.

    https://www.instagram.com

“Wanna find acceptance and hope even when things aren’t going as planned.?! I hope you will, watching #midlovecrisis. I’m So grateful to have shared the screen with this Lovely cast! Thanks also to an Amazing director & crew,” wrote Hatcher in an Instagram post.

    New Hallmark movie

In Mid-Love Crisis, Teri Hatcher plays Mindy, a divorced teacher about to turn 50. Her daughter comes for a weekend visit with her girlfriend, who happens to be the niece of Mindy’s former boyfriend Sam (played by James Tupper). Things become even more complicated when her daughter invites Mindy’s ex-husband, played by Brian Markinson, to the festivities.

“As the weekend progresses, an assertiveness inside her awakens and Mindy finds herself not only embracing her life but discovering what it is she truly wants as she gets ready to start the next chapter,” reads a synopsis from Hallmark.

This is the second movie Hatcher has made with Hallmark Media. In 2021, she reunited with her former Desperate Housewives co-star James Denton for the romantic comedy A Kiss Before Christmas. The pair made the announcement on Hatcher’s Instagram account in a short video.

“You guys, I’m so excited,” Hatcher said. “I’m finally working again. And you want to know why it’s even more exciting?”

She pans over to show Denton sitting beside her.

    “We’re back,” he says.

“Yeah, it’s a thing,” she says. “It’s a thing. Stay tuned.”
