Kat Barrell and Tyler Hynes show off their roller disco moves in new movie

Kat Barrell and Tyler Hynes get to show off their skating moves in the new Hallmark rom-com Shifting Gears, which premieres this weekend as part of the Spring Into Love lineup.

In a short Instagram video, Hynes and Barrell show off some impressive moves on the roller rink. Hynes, who posted the clip, also teased co-star Kristin Booth.

“If you close your eyes and listen carefully…you can still hear @kristintbooth falling in that roller rink,” Hynes wrote in the caption.

Booth replied with, “@tyler_hynes bahahahaha!! It was quite the fall but worth it to get all that delicious bts footage!

    New movie

In Shifting Gears, Barrell plays mechanic Jess Barro, who runs a garage with her father (played by James Burke). Business is tight thanks to competition from a big auto repair shop chain in town. When she finds out about an auto restoration competition, she enters in the hope of winning the prize money.

But she’s shocked to discover that she will be competing with her ex-boyfriend Luke (played by Tyler Hynes). As the competition revs up, Jess and Luke’s personal rivalry becomes a big hit with the audience and producers alike. After a few misfires, they work through their former relationship and start to bond again over their shared love of classic cars.

“As they speed toward the finish line, Luke has a disastrous painting mishap that threatens to ruin Jess’ chances of winning,” reads a synopsis. “And when she learns his dad plans to buy her family’s garage, she suspects the painting disaster was sabotage rather than an accident. Will their relationship break down again and be beyond repair, or will they be able to restore it and jump-start their romance once again?”

    A family affair

Hynes has had a blast posting footage from the set. In another video, he showed his nieces visiting him behind the scenes.

“Lonely guy,” he wrote in the caption. “Family shows up at work. For the first time ever.”

He was clearly thrilled to see his nieces, Haylie and Ella, and show them around the set.

“Now they don’t answer my calls,” he joked.

He also posted a tribute to his mother (which can be viewed here) when she came to visit.

“Her love of going to the movies, which she passed to me, is surpassed only by her love of seeing them being made,” he wrote.

    Make Her Mark

Shifting Gears was directed by Crystal Lowe (yes, of Signed, Sealed, Delivered fame) as part of Hallmark’s Make Her Mark directing program. Initiated by Ashley Williams, the program allows aspiring female directors to work with experienced women filmmakers on Hallmark movies.

Lowe has posted regularly from the set, thanking just about everyone who worked on the film.

“I’m so stoked that I can finally share the journey of directing with all of you!” she wrote in an Instagram post. “This was the beginning!! Meet @scott891 one of the other producers on #shiftinggears who held my hand during the stress and excitement of prep! Prepare yourselves to come on the journey with me and meet all of the incredible people that made this movie happen!!”

Tyler Hynes showed some love for his mother on social media and we are swooning

Tyler Hynes recently shared a post from the set of his latest movie featuring his mother and we are swooning. In a video clip posted to Instagram, Hynes shared footage of his mother visiting him on the set of his latest project.

“My mother raised me on movie sets,” he wrote in subtitles for the video. “This is the first time she’s joined me back on set in 20 years.”

After panning across the set, Hynes zoomed in on his mother, who waved to him from behind a mask.

    Number one fan

Hynes made it clear he’s his mother’s number one fan in the video, which has been viewed 62,000 times.

Some fans who watched the clip chimed in with their own praise for his mom.

“I met your Mom at Christmas Con when you and the guys were doing your Photo Ops,” wrote one. “Very sweet and very proud of her son!”

“The beauty of this post is heartwarming!” wrote another. “Mom, you did an absolutely amazing job on raising a wonderful man. Loving that mom gets VIP sitting as she should!”

    New movie

In the Instagram video, Tyler showed his mom watching him work.

“She can sit wherever she likes,” he wrote. “Even behind the actor I’m looking at cause she’s my mom.”

He continued with, “Her love of going to the movies, which she passed to me, is surpassed only by her love of seeing them being made.”

He showed her filming the action and wrote, “She can pull out her phone and film whatever she likes cause she’s mom.”

He ended the video with a heart and the word, “Moms.”

    Tidal wave of emotion

Fans were moved and responded in the comments section.

“As a mom of a boy… this makes my ❤️ SO happy. My son is not an actor but when I watch him play football it feels like this,” wrote one.

“This post says everything about you.. great men love and respect their moms,” wrote another.

Fellow Hallmark star Crystal Lowe responded with, “Your mom is awesome sauce!”

Four of Hallmark’s favorite stars are collaborating on a new movie. Tyler Hynes, Kat Barrell, Kristin Booth, and Crystal Lowe announced they have finished shooting Shifting Gears, a new Hallmark romance that will premiere in March.

Lowe directed the movie as part of Hallmark’s Make Her Mark directing program, a new initiative to make movies with women directors. In an Instagram post, Lowe thanked fellow Hallmark star Ashley Williams, who created the program.

“This woman!!!” she wrote in the caption. “@ashleywilliamsandcompany chose me to the the first recipient of the Make her Mark initiative. A project that took her five years to make happen. I am in awe of her tenacity, drive, talent and most importantly her light. She literally shines from the inside out.”

Lowe praised both stars in Instagram posts.

“#hynies you are in for a treat!!” she wrote. “A @tyler_hynes movie told through the female gaze. Hopefully you enjoy!”

In another post showing Barrell in her costume, Lowe wrote, “This is @katbarrell if you’re looking for the epitome of grace and power….that’s Kat. Showed up every day ready to play in the work, shine in her beauty and make us all laugh. Thank you Kat for being such an incredible leading lady!”

    Make Her Mark

Former Hallmark CEO Wonya Lucas announced the launch of its Make Her Mark program in 2022 at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour.

“Hallmark is a brand built around giving to and connecting with others, and the Make Her Mark program is our gift of opportunity experience, coaching, and guidance for such deserving and talented women in our field,” Lucas said. “I hope one day, when she accepts her Emmy or Peabody or Oscar, that she fondly remembers that Hallmark Media gave her that first shot…and then she pays it forward.”

The first movie in the series premiered as part of the 2023 Countdown to Christmas lineup. Dream Moms starred Tamera Mowry-Housley as a stay-at-home mom who gets a second chance at Broadway stardom. The movie was directed by Jessica Harmon, who was shadowed by Crystal Lowe.

    Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Lowe was joined on the set by her Signed, Sealed, Delivered co-star Kristin Booth, who also appears in Shifting Gears.

“This woman,” Lowe wrote. “Through thick and thin and ups and downs my @kristintbooth one of the stars of #shiftinggears.”

Booth responded in the comments section with, “God I love you! I am so dang proud of you. You set your sights on your dream of directing many years ago and I was witness to both the conception of that dream and the birth!! I’m so honored to have been by your side and to watch you soar!! Can’t wait to see what you do next Wonder Woman!!”

Fans of Signed, Sealed, Delivered are still waiting to hear when they can expect a new installation in the series. At a recent press event, Hallmark exec Lisa Hamilton-Daly told a Variety reporter to “standby” when she was asked about a new Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

“The Signed, Sealed, Delivered fans are all over me every day,” said Hamilto-Daly, who is executive vice president of programming at Hallmark Media. “I love it, I hear them.”

  • Tyler Hynes and Janel Parrish join Donna Kelce in new promo for Kansas City Chiefs

Tyler Hynes and Janel Parrish join Donna Kelce in new promo for Kansas City Chiefs

Hallmark stars Tyler Hynes and Janel Parrish joined Donna Kelce in a promotional video made to look like a Hallmark movie. In the three-minute video, which was made to promote the playoffs, Hynes and Parrish star in a mock trailer for a Hallmark-esque movie titled Falling For Football.

“A lot of creativity and lovely people come together to put something like this together,” Hynes wrote in an Instagram post. “Few as lovely as these folks.”

    Kansas City Chiefs

In the video, Parrish plays Amber, a woman who was left at the altar by her football-crazed fiancé. Hynes plays Ben, the sports-loving owner of a store that appears to carry only Kansas City Chiefs merchandise. The two meet and — of course — sparks fly.

“When these opposites meet it’s anything but a touchdown,” claims the narrator for the video.

Both Ben and Amber receive advice from acquaintances.

“Forget it, Ben, she’ll never go for you,” says a co-worker played by Mitch Holthus. “She’s lost the postseason spirit.”

In another scene, Amber sits at the counter of a diner saying she doesn’t know how she could trust a man who loves football so much.

“How can he love me and football?” she asks.

Her waitress, played by Donna Kelce, replies, “The heart can be in two places at once.”

The video also featured players Tommy Townsend, Creed Humphrey, and Dante Hall. Even the team mascot, KC Wolf, made an appearance.

    Video

Fans loved the video, which had close to half a million views within a few days of being posted.

“Love it!! Wish it would become a real film,” wrote one fan on Instagram.

“I can’t stop watching these videos!! Love them! Now we need @donnakelce to make a Hallmark movie with @tyler_hynes and @janelparrish,” wrote another.

    Tyler Hynes and Janel Parrish

Parrish also shared behind-the-scenes footage on her Instagram account. Though the trailer isn’t for a real movies, Hynes and Parrish have shared the small screen before. The pair starred in the 2023 Countdown to Christmas movie Never Been Chris’d.

  • The romantic scene Tyler Hynes had added to a Hallmark movie

The romantic scene Tyler Hynes had added to a Hallmark movie

Tyler Hynes is an unapologetic romantic. The actor has appeared in 17 movies for Hallmark, including Sweet Carolina with Lacey Chabert, An Unexpected Christmas with Bethany Joy Lenz, and It Was Always You with Erin Krakow. In more than one interview, he has made it clear that he is a big fan of movies about love.

“…I mean, what is life without love?” he said during an interview with TV Fanatic. “It’s truly, this is the centerpiece of living essentially. And so all the stories that are to be told in that arena is a very worthwhile thing ’cause that is truly, in life, the center of…it all still.”

    Tyler Hynes

Hallmark is known for romantic story lines that end in a kiss. But in the 2023 movie A Picture of Her, Tyler Hynes shared a kiss with his co-star at the end that left fans swooning.

“Yeah, there’s some COVID being passed in those kisses for sure,” he joked.

In the movie, Hynes plays Jake, a photographer who snaps a photo of a stranger that ends up being used on the cover of a magazine. The woman in the photo ends up tracking Jake down and the two become romantically involved.

    That kiss, though

In the final scene of the movie, Tyler’s character Jake gives co-star Rhiannon Fish a longing kiss before the two climb on his motorcycle and take off. It was a scene that Hynes had added in.

“Yeah, that final scene was something that wasn’t originally there and I was like, look guys, I think we’re missing an opportunity here,” he said. “I know legally it’s tough to get Rhiannon on the back of the bike with me, but there’s something to the image of the simplicity of her and I just in that moment together that’s sort of deeply simple and romantic and I’m really glad that we found the time and energy to be able to make that last sort of shot and sequence happen because I think it bookends the movie in a nice way and gives you a nice lasting image that can stay with you.”

Um, you can say that again, Tyler.

  • Tyler Hynes finds himself in a love triangle in new Hallmark Christmas movie

Tyler Hynes finds himself in a love triangle in new Hallmark Christmas movie

Tyler Hynes is at the center of a love triangle in the new Hallmark Christmas movie Never Been Chris’d.

“Naomi (Janel Parrish) and Liz (Pascal Lamothe-Kipnes) had the same high school crush — but what happens when Chris (Tyler Hynes) comes back into their lives for the holidays?” reads a Hallmark Channel Facebook post promoting the film.

    New Hallmark Christmas movie

In Never Been Chris’d, Janel Parrish plays Naomi and Pascal Lamothe-Kipnes plays Liz, two women who have been best friends since birth. They run a successful business together and have plans to go to Hawaii for the holidays.

But Naomi’s mom, Linda (played by Linda Ko) convinces them to come home to Iowa for Christmas instead. When they arrive, Linda announces her plans to move in with Naomi.

On an outing, Naomi and Liz run into Chris Silver (played by Tyler Hynes). They both had crushes on him in high school but considered him out of their league.

The three begin to spend time together and a love triangle forms. Liz and Naomi begin to question their friendship. According to Hallmark, “As two lifelong friends navigate Christmas, their families, their love triangle, and issues with work, they find decades-long issues surfacing and tensions simmering as they’re reminded that friendship can break our hearts, too.”

    About the cast

Janel Parrish had her first professional role on the TV series Baywatch in 1999. She starred in several movies for the Disney Channel and in the Nickelodeon series Zoey 101 before being cast as Mona Vanderwaal in the show Pretty Little Liars. In 2007, she was signed to Geffen Records and produced her first solo album.

Parrish made her Hallmark debut in the 2020 Christmas drama Holly & Ivy. In an interview to promote the movie, she said her mother was thrilled that she was working with Hallmark.

“My mom is Hallmark Christmas movies’ No. 1 fan,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s on all day, every day, no matter what we’re doing. She’d always ask me, ‘When are you going to do one?’ I’d said, ‘Whenever they call me, I will do one.’ So she’s over the moon about me doing this movie.”

She also starred in the 2021 Countdown to Christmas movie Coyote Christmas alongside Ryan Paevey and the 2022 movie Family History Mysteries alongside Niall Matter.

    Tyler Hynes

Tyler Hynes has appeared in the TV shows Heartland, NCIS, Saving Hope, and unREAL.

  • Give the dog a show! Tyler Hynes and his dog have fans cracking up during Facebook Live event to promote new Hallmark movie

Give the dog a show! Tyler Hynes and his dog have fans cracking up during Facebook Live event to promote new Hallmark movie

Tyler Hynes recently went on Facebook Live to answer questions about A Picture of Her, his new romantic comedy for Hallmark. But it soon became clear that the audience only had eyes for his dog.

Loyal bro Rusty James was hanging out on a dresser just behind Hynes, and his reactions to his dad’s comments had viewers in stitches.

“Sorry Tyler, Rusty James definitely stole the show,” wrote one fan in the comments section. “And he made sure you were aware of it. Tap…tapping on your shoulder. Both you guys nailed FB Live!”

“I love to hear you talk to him,” another wrote. “RJ all day every day!”

    Tyler Hynes

Hynes was on Facebook to promote A Picture of Her, his new Spring Into Love rom-com. Co-star Rhiannon Fish was unable to make the appearance, so Hynes called in Rusty James to hang out with him.

While Hynes sang the praises of his co-star, calling Rhiannon Fish a “truly exceptional human being” and a “truly talented artist,” Rusty James lolled about in the background.

At one point, he tapped Hynes on the shoulder.

    “You good, pal?” Hynes asked.

The dog, the myth, the legend: Rusty James

Rusty James, who appears to be a black Pomeranian, eventually indicated he wanted to get off the dresser. Once Hynes put him on the ground and made sure he had his dental stick (proving there is nothing more swoon-worthy than a dog dad), Rusty James continued to make his presence known.

Hynes indicated that the dog was staring at him, asking to be let outside.

    New Hallmark movie

In between exchanges with Rusty James, Hynes spoke about his new movie, which will premiere as part of Hallmark Channel’s Spring Into Love lineup.

In A Picture of Her, Hynes plays a photographer named Jake who snaps a picture of Rhiannon Fish’s character Beth. Unaware that she has had her picture taken, Beth is shocked when her image graces the cover of an award-winning magazine. She becomes determined to track down the man who took the picture.

“One of the things I loved about this story is…this idea that in our modern age, people might not have the time nor the impetus to care about the simpler, finer things in our world,” Hynes said.

What it’s like to date Tyler Hynes

In addition to sharing his insights on the movie, Hynes answered some questions about what he considers the perfect date.

“I think I like when things go the way they’re supposed to and if you don’t quite know how that evening is going to go down, then it’s all the more fun,” he said.

He then added, “A motorcycle ride through the hills is never a bad idea.”

A Picture of Her will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, March 25 at 8/7c.
