The CW will air Season 1 of Hallmark’s short-lived rodeo series Ride. The network announced it will run all 10 episodes of the show, which starred Nancy Travis, Marcus Rosner, Tiera Skovbye, and Dylan Neal. It’s not clear whether the network plans to produce more episodes of the series.
Hallmark series
Ride was one of two new series to premiere on Hallmark Channel in 2023. The other series, The Way Home — starring Andie MacDowell and Chyler Leigh — had its debut in January. That show has already been renewed for a second season.
In Ride, Nancy Travis starred as Isabel McMurray, the matriarch of a rodeo dynasty. Throughout the first season Isabel, who lost both her husband and her oldest son to bull-riding accidents, is struggling to decide whether she can afford to hold on to her family’s Colorado ranch.
Her son Cash (played by Beau Mirchoff) decides to become a bull-rider to raise money for the ranch, but Isabel is terrified something will happen to him. Instead, she looks into selling the ranch to a wealthy man (Dylan Neal) and his family.
Fan reactions
Fans had mixed reactions to the series. Some loved it, calling it, “Yellowstone without the swearing and murder.” Others said they liked that one of the characters was openly gay.
Others struggled to get interested in the storyline.
“Hard to follow and just like all the other ranch shows,” wrote one viewer on Facebook. “Always a lot of problems and they’re going to lose the ranch.”
“I’ll give it another couple of weeks but tonight it felt a little ‘meh,’” wrote one viewer.
“Too many characters. Too many men with beards. I didn’t know who was who,” wrote another.
Renewed?
Right before the series finale, Nancy Travis, Beau Mirchoff, Jake Foy, Sara Garcia, Tiera Skovbye, and Tyler Jacob Moore did a Facebook Live to answer questions about the show. But none of the actors would reveal if fans could expect Season 2.
Fans responded in the comments.
“Praying you have season two coming out love this show,” wrote one fan.
“As soon as we have more information, we’ll be sure to post it on our FB page,” wrote the page administrator for Hallmark Channel. “Thank you for reaching out.”
Ratings for Season 1 of the series varied greatly from week to week. Episode 1 brought in around 1.3 million viewers. Episode 9, on the other hand, had around 830,000 viewers. Hallmark’s other new series, The Way Home, had between 1.3 and 1.7 million viewers per episode.
The CW
In November, Vulture reported that Hallmark had quietly canceled the series.
A month later, the CW announced will begin airing the series on Monday, January 22, 2024, followed by episodes of its new series Wild Cards. The network has not made it clear whether it will revive it for additional series.

Dylan Neal returns to Hallmark — this time as the bad guy — in rodeo series Ride
Dylan Neal is back on the Hallmark Channel. The actor, who co-starred with Andie MacDowell in the Hallmark series Cedar Cove, has taken a role on the rodeo show Ride.
“I hope you’ll check out Hallmark’s new TV series called RIDE,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “…I have a recurring role on this show playing a different character than you’re used to seeing me play on this network.”
Neal plays Daniel Booker, the head of a wealthy oil family that is looking to buy the ranch from Isabel McMurray (played by Nancy Travis).
Dylan Neal
Neal has a long working relationship with Hallmark. In addition to playing Jack Griffith on the series Cedar Cove, he wrote and co-starred in the Gourmet Detective Mysteries movies.
He’s also starred in the Hallmark movies Looks Like Christmas (2016), Truly, Madly, Sweetly (2018), and Christmas She Wrote (2020).
In 2021, the actor moved to Portugal with his wife and two children. In an Instagram post, he told fans about his love for the country.
“It seems like the whole world is moving to Portugal right now — and for good reason,” he wrote. “Whether it’s the world-class beaches of the Algarve (those caves!), or Lisbon, Porto, Braga or the Silver Coast — Portugal and its citizens make it such an inviting and beautiful country.”
He added that he wasn’t retiring.
“We’ll be back in North America for work (Hallmark has my number) and to visit friends and family regularly,” he wrote.
Rodeo series Ride
Hallmark’s new series premiered on March 26. Starring Nancy Travis, Beau Mirchoff, Jake Foy, and Tiera Skovbye, the show follows a rodeo family trying to hold onto its Colorado ranch.
Matriarch Isabel is ready to sell to the Booker family, though she faces resistance from her sons. They begin to warm to the idea after meeting Gus Booker (played by Tyler Jacob Moore), Daniel’s son. But when Daniel shows up, his curt manner catches them off guard.
Cedar Cove
In a 2022 Instagram post, the actor talked about his long working relationship with Hallmark.
“Cedar Cove was Hallmark’s first ever TV series and while we only lasted three seasons, I made a lot of friends on that set and at the network, where I later created the Gourmet Detective series and a few other movies with my wife, Becky,” he wrote. “I’ve learned a lot while working with @hallmarkchannel and @hallmarkmovie and I’m grateful for the memories.”
Long career
Dylan Neal played Dylan Shaw on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful from 1994 to 1996. From 1998 to 2003 he played Doug Witter on the series Dawson’s Creek.
Neal has made appearances on CSI: Miami, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, 90210, Arrow, and JAG. He has also had a recurring role on the popular Canadian series Murdoch Mysteries as Sergeant Jasper Linney.

Tyler Jacob Moore: Fans of Hallmark’s show Ride are in for some big surprises
Tyler Jacob Moore told fans of Hallmark’s show Ride to hold on tight because they are in for a surprise. In a recent interview, the actor said that many of the questions raised in the first part of the season — about his character and others on the show — will soon be answered, though not necessarily in the way they might think.
“It’s not going to go the way you think,” he said during the Hallmarkies Podcast. “…The writers knew what they were doing.”
Moore said he loves how the show’s writers have peppered the script with clues about the various backstories. It means viewers can, if they pay attention, figure out what is going on before it is revealed.
Hallmark’s show Ride
Tyler Jacob Moore stars as Gus Booker on the series, which premiered in March on Hallmark Channel.
His character comes from a wealthy family and is interested in purchasing the McMurray ranch from Isabel (played by Nancy Travis) who is ready to give up on the operation following the death of both her husband and her oldest son, Austin (played by Marcus Rosner).
Many members of Isabel’s family are skeptical of Gus, believing he will sell off the land to greedy developers. But Gus seems genuine in his desire to learn the ropes and continue running the ranch.
The audience may change its view of Gus after meeting his family in upcoming episodes.
“You will fully understand why his reputation preceded him and probably rightfully so,” he said.
About Tyler Jacob Moore
A native of Illinois, Moore got his start acting in home movies written and directed by his brother. He earned his degree in musical theater from Palm Beach Atlantic University and served in the Army before starting his career as an actor in Los Angeles.
He has appeared in the TV shows Grey’s Anatomy, Shameless, GCB, Seal Team, and Chicago Fire. Moore also appeared on the series Once Upon a Time with his Ride co-star Marcus Rosner.
Ride is Moore’s first role with Hallmark Media, and he says he has been pleasantly surprised. He particularly likes that Ride focuses on strong, independent women who aren’t defined by their romantic relationships.
Learning the two-step
Though Moore had experience riding horses, he had to learn how to dance for his role on the show. He said all the actors had lessons but he got a little extra help from a kind stranger. After he put out a call for help on the Internet, he said a science teacher in Calgary for a conference agreed to meet him in a park and helped him polish his moves.
Moore said he hopes people continue to watch the series, which is airing on Hallmark Channel on Sundays and is also streaming on Hallmark Movies Now and Peacock.

Actress Tiera Skovbye cried tears of joy when she found out she was joining the cast of Hallmark’s new rodeo show Ride
Actress Tiera Skovbye said booking the role of Missy McMurray in Hallmark’s rodeo show was so exciting that she cried when she got the news.
“My manager normally when there is good news he’ll call me and it will be like a conference call with the whole team and if there’s bad news, he’ll just send an email or a text and be like, ‘Call me when you have a second,’ and that’s what he did,” said the actress during Facebook Live event. “He texted me and I was like, I didn’t get it. So I was calling him prepared for the disappointment like, ‘Oh you know, they loved you but it just didn’t go your way,” which I feel like we’ve all heard like a gazillion times. And then I called and it was a conference call and they were all like, ‘You got it!’”
The actress burst into tears and immediately called her mother, who was visiting family in Europe. “We were all very happy,” she said.
Hallmark’s rodeo show
Hallmark’s rodeo show premiered on March 26 to mixed reviews from fans. The series, which was created by husband-and-wife team Rebecca Boss and Chris Masi, stars Nancy Travis, Marcus Rosner, Beau Mirchoff, and Skovbye. It follows the McMurray family, a rodeo dynasty that owns a sprawling ranch in the Colorado Rockies.
During a Facebook Live event to promote the series, Skovbye talked about how drawn she felt to the story when she first read the script.
“I think for me it was definitely like the family dynamics and those really intricate relationships that we portray and it was a really fun opportunity to you know explore this family and these people and this culture and this community in a way that I hadn’t really read before and so I was really excited about that,” Skovbye said.
Rodeo queen
In the series, Skovbye plays Missy, a trick-riding rodeo queen who married the oldest of the three McMurray brothers.
In the show’s first episode, her husband is killed while bull riding. After his death, Missy stays on at the ranch. Though she is close to her mother-in-law, Isabel (played by Nancy Travis), she is also wondering where she belongs.
It doesn’t help that middle brother Cash (played by Beau Mirchoff) settles back in at the ranch following his brother’s death. It soon becomes clear that Missy and Cash have had some sort of personal relationship in the past.

All hail Nancy Travis
Skovbye, who has had roles on Riverdale, Once Upon a Time, and Nurses, said working with Nancy Travis has been amazing.
“She’s the best,” she said. “It’s so wonderful to work with somebody who is not only an incredible person but also as an actress is somebody that I can look up to and learn from.”
Episode 3 of Ride will air on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, April 9 at 9/8c.

Bull riders, mountains, and a man named Tuff: Everything you need to know about Hallmark’s new show
Hallmark’s new show Ride will premiere at the end of March. Set on a ranch in the Rockies, the series stars Nancy Travis as the matriarch of a multigenerational rodeo dynasty.
The show is the second new series Hallmark has introduced this year. The Way Home premiered on January 15.
Hallmark’s new show
In a trailer released by the network, Nancy Travis’s character, Isabel McMurray, narrates several shots of the family’s ranch and rodeo.
“This ranch, this family — I’ve learned you can’t take anything for granted,” she says.
The series follows Isabel and her three sons — Austin, Cash, and Tuff (no, seriously, that’s his name) — as they attempt to keep the ranch they own from being bought out by greedy developers. The family is joined in their struggle by former rodeo queen Missy (played by Tiera Skovbye) and ranch-hand-turned-family-member Valeria Galindo (played by Sara Garcia).
In the trailer, it becomes clear that Cash (played by Beau Mirchoff) wants to compete as a bull rider to raise money. But Isabel knows how dangerous this is and doesn’t want him to risk his life.
Where was the show filmed?
The series was shot on location in Calgary, Alberta. (Coincidentally, the CBC series Heartland — a show Ride has been compared to — is also filmed on a ranch in Alberta.)
In a video promoting the show, cast member Jake Foy talked about the authenticity of the series.
“Part of the magic of the show is that we shoot everything practically,” said Foy, who plays Tuff McMurray. “We’re really on a ranch in the Rockies. We’re really in the ring with bulls and bull fighters.”
About the cast
Nancy Travis starred in the movies Three Men and a Baby and its sequel, Three Men and a Little Lady. She appeared in The Vanishing with Kiefer Sutherland, Internal Affairs with Andy Garcia, and Greedy with Michael J. Fox. From 2007 to 2009 she starred on The Bill Engvall Show. She has also appeared on Grey’s Anatomy and How I Met Your Mother.
Beau Mirchoff, who plays Cash on the show, appeared on the CBC series Heartland, as well as MTV’s show Awkward. He starred in the movies See You in Valhalla, Flatliners, and All Summers End.
Tiera Skovbye, who plays former rodeo queen Missy on the show, has appeared in the TV shows Once Upon a Time, Nurses, and Riverdale.
Ride will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, March 26 at 8/7c.
