A new face is joining the cast of When Calls the Heart

When Calls the Heart is getting a new cast member. Actor Billy Christos Jr. has been posting photos to Instagram from the set of Hallmark’s hit series.

“Hello my name is Toby. I’m on the set of my new TV show. Can you guess the show?” he wrote in a post.

Apart from his character’s name — Toby — Christos didn’t share much information. Some fans have speculated that since he is a child, Christos will be one of the students at Hope Valley’s school.

    A new face

Christos has had roles in the TV shows Peacemaker and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He will also appear in the soon-to-be-released series Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

The actor wasted no time sharing photos from the Hope Valley set.

“My very first day on the set of When Calls the Heart and I was sharing a scene with this acting legend,” he wrote in the caption of a photo with Jack Wagner, who plays Bill Avery in the series.

“I loved hanging out with one of the nicest guys in Hope Valley, the Mayor,” he wrote in the caption of a pic with Ben Rosenbaum, who plays Mike Hickam.

He also shared pics of himself with Johanna Newmarch (Molly Sullivan), Amanda Wong (Mei Suo), and Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thornton).

In one sweet post, he shared a photo of the set with the caption, “Sometimes when I’m on the set of @wcth_tv and I look around, it feels magical with a lot of history and a lot more stories to unfold…”

    When Calls the Heart

When Calls the Heart is Hallmark’s longest-running original series. The show, which is based on the novels by Canadian author Janette Oke, follows the small mining community of Hope Valley. It premiered on Hallmark Channel in 2014 and soon developed a loyal following.

In a recent interview, Erin Krakow said she feels so fortunate to be a part of the series.

“People have asked me over the years, do you ever get bored playing the same character on a show that has been around for this many seasons? And the answer is really no,” she told TV Fanatic. “I mean, one because I just have a great time with our cast and crew. But, two, because Hallmark and our writers and showrunners over the years have given me a great gift in that Elizabeth has never become stagnant. It isn’t repetitive. It’s a real honest depiction of a woman going through these various chapters in her life.”

Season 10 of When Calls the Heart will premiere on Hallmark Channel on July 30.

    Andie MacDowell as Del Landry

No stranger to Hallmark audiences, MacDowell played Judge Olivia Lockhart on the Hallmark series Cedar Cove from 2013 to 2015. Based on the books by Debbie Macomber, the show followed the residents of a small town on Puget Sound in Washington State. The ensemble cast also included Sarah Smyth, Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Brennan Elliott, Barbara Niven, Cindy Busby, and Jesse Hutch.

A native of Gaffney, South Carolina, MacDowell worked as a model before being cast in the 1984 movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Audiences never got to hear her voice in the movie as the producers decided her South Carolina accent was too pronounced and dubbed her lines using Glenn Close.

She had a small role in St. Elmo’s Fire but her breakout role was in Steven Soderbergh’s 1989 film Sex, Lies, and Videotape. MacDowell’s performance was so impressive she was nominated for a Golden Globe. She went on to star in Green Card with Gerard Depardieu, Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, and Four Weddings and a Funeral with Hugh Grant.

    Chyler Leigh as Kat Landry

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Chyler Leigh began modeling as a teenager. Her breakout role was in the 2001 comedy Not Another Teen Movie. In 2007, she joined the cast of the hit series Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Lexie Grey, the half-sister of Ellen Pompeo’s character, Dr. Meredith Grey. From 2015 to 2021, Leigh appeared in the DC comics superhero series Supergirl.

Leigh has been an outspoken advocate for people affected by mental illness. At the age of 29, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has used her social media platform to help others struggling with mental health issues.

Soon after Hallmark announced that The Way Home was coming to TV, Leigh shared an Instagram post saying she was excited about the show.

“Took time off to work hard on myself,” she wrote. “It’s not been easy. Letting go of the past can be quick or a lifelong journey. But it’s a journey that is so so worth the climb. My thanks to those who have helped me along the way. I’m standing on a new mountain top and am so excited for what’s on the horizon. @hallmarkchannel #TheWayHome #KatLandry … here we go.”

    Sadie Laflamme-Snow as Alice

Newcomer Sadie Laflamme-Snow will portray Alice, a rebellious teen who becomes enthralled by the mystery she finds in her mother’s hometown.

A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s acting program, Laflamme-Snow has appeared in the TV series Game On and the movies Love Triangle Nightmare and Sinister Switch.

    Evan Williams as Elliott

Actor Evan Williams will portray the role of Elliott Augustine, Kat’s childhood friend who teaches science at the town’s high school. Though he is not in many of the promotional materials Hallmark has released for the show, Elliott plays a crucial role in helping the Landry women deal with past circumstances.

He also has a major crush on Kat, meaning there’s a potential for romance. (Yay!)

Hallmark audiences might recognize Williams as Corey from the Full House re-boot Fuller House. He also starred in the romantic comedies A Date by Christmas Eve and Christmas Takes Flight.

The Way Home will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, January 15 at 9/8c.

  • Five fascinating facts you didn’t know about When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow

Five fascinating facts you didn’t know about When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow

For the past 10 years, Erin Krakow has starred on Hallmark’s longest-running original series When Calls the Heart. The Philadelphia native has also starred in the Hallmark movies A Cookie Cutter Christmas, Sense, Sensibility & Snowmen, Finding Father Christmas, Engaging Father Christmas, and Marrying Father Christmas. Here are a few fascinating facts about the actress:

    1. Erin Krakow is a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City

Krakow became serious about acting at a young age and attended the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida. After graduation, she moved to New York to study drama at Juilliard, which has trained many of the country’s finest actors. Fellow graduates include Robin Williams, Kelsey Grammer, Jessica Chastain, Patti LuPone, Kevin Kline, and Adam Driver.

    2. When Calls the Heart was not her first television show

Before she took on the role of Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton, Krakow played Army Specialist Tanya Gabriel in the television series Army Wives.

The show also starred Catherine Bell, who played Cassie Nightingale in Hallmark’s Good Witch film and television series.

Krakow told a reporter that she considers Bell a good friend.

“I LOVED working with Catherine Bell on ARMY WIVES,” Krakow said. “She was so kind to me and has become a dear friend! She’s also incredibly talented!”

    3. She wasn’t the original Elizabeth

Poppy Drayton as Elizabeth Thatcher in the Hallmark original movie When Calls the Heart. When Hallmark developed the story into a series, Erin Krakow was cast in the role. (Image: Hallmark Media)

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Krakow playing the role of Elizabeth (Thatcher) Thornton. However, the actress wasn’t originally cast as in the part.

When Hallmark Media (then called Crown Media) decided to make a film version of the first book in Janette Oke’s Canadian West series, the director chose actress Poppy Drayton to play the role of Elizabeth. The British actress did a great job, but when it came time to cast the TV series, the director went with Krakow.

In an interview, Krakow said she hopes to work with Drayton at some point.

“I’ll always feel connected to Poppy through Elizabeth,” Krakow said. “Hopefully we’ll get to work on something together soon. That would be special.”

    4. She has played a bride onscreen three times (so far…)

Erin Krakow in the 2018 Hallmark Channel movie Marrying Father Christmas. (Image: Hallmark Media)
Erin Krakow in the 2018 Hallmark Channel movie Marrying Father Christmas. (Image: Hallmark Media)

The first time Krakow got married onscreen was during Season 5 of When Calls the Heart, when her character, Elizabeth, married Mountie Jack Thornton (played by Daniel Lissing). In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lissing said the pair made a request to write the vows themselves.

“Erin and I had sat down together… and I talked to her about the potential of writing our own vows, as Jack and as Elizabeth,” he said. “So we took that to the producers and they were like, ‘Well, yeah, you guys know the characters better than anyone else does,’ and so we actually wrote our vows.”

Later that year, Krakow played a bride in the Hallmark Channel movie Marrying Father Christmas, when her character, Miranda Chester, married Ian McAndrick (played by Niall Matter).

Krakow also played a bride in the 2021 Hallmark movie It Was Always You, though her character ended up not getting married to her original fiancé. In the romantic comedy, Krakow’s character, Elizabeth, realizes she has feelings for the groom’s brother (in a tasteful, Hallmark-y way), who was played by Tyler Hynes.

The actress requested Hynes for the part, and the two became good friends.

“…You work with some people and it feels very natural and like you’ve known that person or have been working with them for a long time,” Krakow said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “And that was the case between the two of us. Tyler is an incredible actor. He’s very collaborative. He’s always wanting to elevate the work.”

    5. The first scene she ever filmed for When Calls the Heart was with Lori Loughlin

In the pilot episode of When Calls the Heart, Elizabeth accidentally burned down the teacher’s cottage where she was supposed to live. A local widow named Abigail Stanton (played by Loughlin) took Elizabeth in, and the two soon became good friends.

Her second scene was with Daniel Lissing, and Krakow said she had a feeling that it was the start of something special.

Hallmark Channel has not yet released a premiere date for Season 10 of When Calls the Heart. In 2022, Season 9 premiered in March.

  • A baby is part of the magic in the long-awaited follow-up to Hallmark’s Wedding Veil trilogy

A baby is part of the magic in the long-awaited follow-up to Hallmark’s Wedding Veil trilogy

The long-awaited follow-up to Hallmark’s Wedding Veil trilogy premieres this weekend, and if the previews are to be believed, a baby is on the way for Lacey Chabert’s character Avery.

“The story continues Saturday night! Please let me know if you’ll be watching!” wrote Chabert in an Instagram post that featured a preview of the movie.

In the brief clip, Avery eats pizza with abandon, looks nauseated when offered a cup of coffee, and gazes down at her stomach, suggesting that she might be pregnant. The tagline reads, “The veil is working its magic again.”

    Hallmark’s Wedding Veil trilogy

Hallmark introduced audiences to the magic of The Wedding Veil last year with the release of three movies in 2022. The trilogy starred Chabert, Alison Sweeney, and Autumn Reeser, as three college friends who meet up every year for a weekend in a different city.

While in San Francisco, Avery (played by Chabert) comes across a beautiful lace wedding veil in an antique store. The store owner claims the veil is enchanted and will bring true love to its owner. Though her friends are skeptical, Avery is smitten, and she buys the veil. The next thing she knows, a handsome stranger (played by Kevin McGarry) enters her life, and she soon falls in love.

In the sequel, The Wedding Veil Unveiled, it was Reeser’s turn to meet a handsome stranger. And in The Wedding Veil Legacy, Sweeney found her happily ever after. The movies were among the network’s most-watched films of the year.

    A story of friendship

In a Facebook Live event to promote the movies, Chabert, Reeser, and Sweeney said that friendship is the true love story in all three Wedding Veil movies.

“I think sisterhood is at the heart of these stories,” Chabert said.

Reeser agreed, saying that the relationship between the three characters reminded her of her own friendships in real life.

“The love stories that have meant the most to me in my life are the love stories between me and my friends,” she said. “I think friendship gets put in a second-place position and for so many of us, those are the relationships that carry us through our life.”

    Three new movies

Chabert shared the news that three more Wedding Veil movies were in the works during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Soon after, co-star Alison Sweeney began sharing photos and videos from the set of the new movies, which were filmed in Greece and Bulgaria.

Fans were thrilled to find out about the new movies.

“So excited!!” wrote one fan in the comments section of Chabert’s post. “Loved this trilogy so much!!!”

The Wedding Veil Expectations will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, January 7 at 8/7c.

  • Pascale Hutton shares first look at baby bump in Season 10 teaser for When Calls the Heart

Pascale Hutton shares first look at baby bump in Season 10 teaser for When Calls the Heart

When Calls the Heart’s Pascale Hutton shared a look at her (faux) baby bump in a Season 10 teaser. In a video posted to Instagram, Hutton and her co-star Kavan Smith held hands and walked into a field while the song “Baby Love” by The Supremes plays. Hutton then turned to reveal a baby bump.

“A very special Christmas present to all those #Hearties out there!” Hutton wrote in the caption.

“Season 10 is going to be a very special delivery!!!” co-star Erin Krakow wrote in the comments section.

    Baby bump

Fans were thrilled when Hutton’s When Calls the Heart character, Rosemary Coulter, discovered late in Season 9 that she was pregnant. In a hilarious scene, she shared the news with her husband, Leland (played by Smith), who was so excited he ran outside in his pajamas shouting with excitement.

The Coulters married in Season 3 and have been hoping to become parents ever since. In a devastating scene, a tearful Rosemary apologized to Lee for not giving him a child. Lee replied, “No matter how much I want to be a father the only thing in the whole world I really need is you.”

When Calls the Heart Season 10

In interviews, both Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith said they have been lobbying writers to make Rosemary and Leland parents for years. But they figured producers waited to write a pregnancy into the script because there was already a baby on the show. (Little Jack Thornton was played by Gunnar and Lincoln Taylor from Season 6 to Season 8 before being replaced by Hyland Goodrich in Season 9).

Since twins are needed to play babies on TV shows and movies because of labor laws, Hutton and Smith reckoned producers didn’t want another set of twins on the set.

“It’s logistics,” Smith said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

In the same interview, both actors said it would be great for the Coulters to become parents.

“I think it would be hilarious to see Rosemary pregnant,” Hutton said.

“For Lee and Rosemary, with the two quirky characters that they are to go through [a pregnancy] together?” Smith said. “It’s just a gold mine of fun to be had.”

Season 10 of When Calls the Heart is set to premiere in 2023. As of publication, Hallmark has not yet given a premiere date.

  • Screenwriter Rod Spence says a new Good Witch movie could be coming to Hallmark

Screenwriter Rod Spence says a new Good Witch movie could be coming to Hallmark

The man who created Cassie Nightingale said he believes a new Good Witch movie could be coming to Hallmark. In an interview on the Keep Heartland Strong YouTube channel, screenwriter Rod Spence said he doesn’t think the TV series will return but Hallmark will probably make more movies.

“I think there’s a very good chance it could come back as a movie or a series of movies,” Spence said.

Two of the show’s stars have made similar comments, leading Goodies to hope they will get to see their favorite characters onscreen again.

    The Good Witch

Spence wrote the screenplay for The Good Witch back in 2004. He was trying to sell action-movie screenplays when his agent suggested he take a phone meeting with a Hallmark executive. She told Spence that the network liked to do holiday-themed movies but that they always struggled with Halloween.

“I said, ‘Well let me take a shot at that, let me see what I can come up with,’” Spence said. “So I hung up the phone and an amazing thing happened. Within 45 minutes I had the I had the basic idea for The Good Witch.”

Though he finished the script that year, it took another three years before Hallmark brought it to life on the small screen.

“I kind of think this was divine timing that it just laid there for three years until Catherine Bell came along,” he said. “She was absolutely Cassie Nightingale from day one.”

Catherine Bell in the 2008 Hallmark movie The Good Witch, the first of the Good Witch movies. The actress recently hinted that another Good Witch movie might be in the works. (Image: Hallmark Media)

The movie was so successful that Hallmark commissioned a sequel. Spence offered to write a third movie for the series, which Hallmark wanted to make as a Christmas movie. In The Good Witch’s Gift, Cassie Nightingale got married in a Christmas-themed wedding.

The network made a series of movies featuring the characters Spence created. In 2015, Hallmark premiered a TV series based on the movies.

    The magic of Cassie Nightingale

Spence said he believes the character of Cassie Nightingale was responsible for much of the franchise’s popularity.

“The key to Cassie’s character for me, and what made her so unique and successful is very simple: She’s a woman that no matter who comes to her or what situation comes to her she always responds with unconditional love,” Spence said. “That’s the whole key and that’s what makes her so unique. And you can do so much with that.”

    New Good Witch movie

Hallmark shocked fans when it announced it was canceling the series in July 2021. Goodies have been trying to get the show back on the air ever since, something Spence doesn’t believe will happen.

“It just doesn’t make any business sense to do that as a series,” Spence said.

He explained that costs associated with a TV show tend to increase over the years, and without high enough ratings, the network can’t justify keeping it alive. But it’s highly likely that Hallmark will make a movie featuring Cassie Nightingale and her family, he said. Spence even volunteered to write the script.

“If Hallmark needs a writer for the next Good Witch movie, give me a call!” he said. “I would certainly love to do that.”

  • Hallmark believes its new TV series The Way Home will be a fan favorite

Hallmark believes its new TV series The Way Home will be a fan favorite

Hallmark’s new TV series, The Way Home, will premiere in January, and the network already believes it has landed on a story that will resonate with fans.

“We know the compelling, heartfelt journey of the Landry women and the series will draw in viewers and is sure to become a new fan favorite,” said Laurie Ferneau, senior vice president of development at Hallmark Media.

The Way Home is the first new Hallmark has introduced since 2016, when it premiered the family drama Chesapeake Shores. The series will star Andie MacDowell, who previously headlined Hallmark’s TV series Cedar Cove.

    New TV series

In The Way Home, MacDowell will star as Del Landry, the matriarch of the Landry family and a pillar of the community in her small Canadian farming town. According to a synopsis from the network:

“She and her daughter Kat have been estranged from each other following tragic events that left their family forever changed and prompted Kat to move away. When Kat unexpectedly returns many years later with her teenage daughter whom Del has never met, the three generations of women embark on an enlightening journey to find their way back to each other and learn important lessons about their family’s past.”

The series is being written by the mother-daughter team Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke. The pair, who wrote the script for the Disney Channel movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars, have also collaborated on the award-winning series Heartland.

    Canceled shows

In recent years, Hallmark canceled all but one of its TV shows, much to the disappointment of fans. In July 2021, the network announced the show Good Witch would finish at the end of Season 7. Shortly before filming began on Season 6 of Chesapeake Shores, Hallmark announced it would be the show’s last. The network also canceled its lifestyle program Home and Family.

Fans have already said on social media that they are reluctant to commit to a new Hallmark show because they are afraid it will be canceled.

When Hallmark released a video trailer of the new show, which will also star Chyler Leigh and Sadie Laflamme-Snow, some fans wrote they wouldn’t watch it.

“Every time we get interested in and devoted to a series it gets canceled,” wrote one fan in the Facebook comments section.

“No more series for me,” wrote another. “I just start watching then they cancel them.”

But Hallmark is hoping other viewers will take to the family drama.

“The Way Home is a passion project and I am beyond happy to see this special series brought to life here at Hallmark, and so beautifully,” said Lisa Hamilton-Daly, executive vice president of programming at Hallmark Media.

The Way Home will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, January 15 at 8/7c.

  • Kayla Wallace and Kevin McGarry are engaged!

Kayla Wallace and Kevin McGarry are engaged!

“Forever,” wrote Wallace in the caption of an Instagram video that showed a diamond glittering on her ring finger.

“Beautiful!!!! Congratulations,” wrote When Calls the Heart co-star Pascale Hutton.

“Our forever friends found their forever!” wrote Erin Krakow. “So happy for you both! Still haven’t recovered from this beautiful moment!”

    Kayla Wallace and Kevin McGarry

Wallace and McGarry met on the set of Hallmark’s longest-running original series When Calls the Heart in 2019. Both actors joined the series in its sixth season on the air.

McGarry was cast as Mountie Nathan Grant, who was brought on the show as a suitor for widow Elizabeth Thornton (played by Erin Krakow). For two seasons he competed with businessman Lucas Bouchard (played by Chris McNally) for Elizabeth’s hand. At the end of Season 8, she chose Bouchard. In Season 9, McGarry’s character met a newcomer to Hope Valley, Mei Suo (played by Amanda Wong) and sparks flew.

Wallace joined the cast as Fiona Miller, an independent young woman who was brought to Hope Valley to help set up the town’s first switchboard.

Andrea Brooks gives birth to Baby No. 2: Find out his name

When Calls the Heart star Andrea Brooks gave birth to Baby No. 2 over the weekend. The actress posted a photo of herself on Instagram holding her child and smiling.

“Perfection,” wrote her When Calls the Heart co-star Pascale Hutton in the comments. “Congratulations mama!!!”

“So happy for you guys!!!” wrote Erin Krakow.

    https://www.instagram.com

    Andrea Brooks

Brooks announced in November that she and her husband, Riley Graydon, were expecting their second child.

“At this point, I feel like I could almost write a book on how to hide a pregnancy on television,” Brooks said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “This is the second time I’ve shot a season of When Calls the Heart while pregnant — the last time was Season 7 — and I am forever grateful to Hallmark Channel, our writers, showrunner, directors and producers, for all of their continued support!”

    Baby No. 2

Brooks and Graydon revealed to ET Online that their son is named Levon, which is the title of Brooks’ favorite Elton John song. He was 10 lbs. 6 oz at birth. Both mother and baby are doing well.

This is the second child for the couple. In 2019, Brooks gave birth to their daughter, Viola.

In a November interview, Brooks said she had a list of possible names for Baby No. 2 in mind but that it was constantly changing.

“Viola, on the other hand, has already named the baby!” she said. “If we’re not careful I’m afraid she might sign the birth certificate on our behalf.”

The When Calls the Heart Family

In a recent interview, Brooks, who plays Dr. Faith Carter on the hit Hallmark series, said her When Calls the Heart co-workers have been incredibly supportive of her pregnancies.

“The major benefit of being a part of a show that’s been on-air for nearly a decade is the tight-knit community we’ve formed as a cast and crew,” Brooks said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “It’s been so exciting to see so many people from our show grow up, get engaged, get married, and start families. We also have a LOT of parents on our show. I’ve had so many meaningful conversations on set about preschool, babies, parenting, and balancing it all. Pascale Hutton is always able to answer any question I have about raising kids and I’m always so appreciative of her advice. Also, the costume department left me an adorable crochet baby hat in my trailer the other day.”

  • Alison Sweeney, Autumn Reeser, and Lacey Chabert send fans their love from the set of the new Wedding Veil movies.

Alison Sweeney, Autumn Reeser, and Lacey Chabert send fans their love from the set of the new Wedding Veil movies.

Alison Sweeney posted a video from the set of Hallmark’s new Wedding Veil movies, calling the experience “an incredibly fun adventure.”

“It has been so much fun filming #TheWeddingVeil in Greece & Bulgaria,” she wrote. “I’m so grateful to everyone on the cast & crew for making this shoot so special.”

    New Wedding Veil movies

Sweeney’s co-star Lacey Chabert broke the news that three new Wedding Veil movies were coming to Hallmark during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

While promoting her new Christmas movie, Haul Out the Holly, Chabert revealed that she was heading to Greece to film the next movies in the series.

“We’re going to be back,” Chabert said.

    The Wedding Veil trilogy

Fans were excited earlier this year when they found out that three of their favorite Hallmark stars — Lacey Chabert, Alison Sweeney, and Autumn Reeser — would be starring in a trio of movies together.

The Wedding Veil trilogy followed three college friends who reunite every year for a weekend visit. During a trip to San Francisco, Avery (played by Lacey Chabert) bought an antique wedding veil alleged to be enchanted. The shop owner told her that the person who has the veil will find true love. Soon after, Avery met the man of her dreams (played by When Calls the Heart’s Kevin McGarry), and the two married. She then passed the veil along to Reeser’s character, who found true love on a trip to Italy to research the veil’s origins. After Reeser’s character said, “I do,” she passed the veil along to Sweeney’s character, who — yup, you guessed it — ended up falling in love as well.

In a Facebook Live interview to promote the original movies, Chabert said the movies were, at their core, about friendship.

“I think the sisterhood is at the heart of these stories,” Chabert said.

    On the set

In posts from the set of the new movies, all three actresses have said how wonderful it is to be working together again.

“I am so grateful to have such incredibly supportive friends!!” Sweeney wrote in another post. “We were filming late together on a night which happened to be the premiere of #amagicalchristmasvillage. So while we were filming #theweddingveil everyone cozied up to watch and enjoy the movie during our breaks in between takes.”

The Wedding Veil Expectations will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 8/7c.

  • All the new Hallmark movies coming to TV in January

All the new Hallmark movies coming to TV in January

Countdown to Christmas may still be in full swing, but new Hallmark movies are coming to television in January. Six new films will premiere, including all three new Wedding Veil movies.

Fans were thrilled when Lacey Chabert announced on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Show that Hallmark was making three more movies in the Wedding Veil series. The original trilogy, which starred Chabert, Alison Sweeney, and Autumn Reeser, premiere, made its debut on Hallmark Channel in 2022. It was such a favorite among fans that Hallmark ordered three more movies.

    New Hallmark movies

First up is The Dog Lover’s Guide to Dating, starring Rebecca Dalton and Corey Sevier. In the movie, Simon (played by Sevier) believes Chloe is the girl of his dreams, but can’t seem to win over her beloved pup. He enlists dog trainer Alex (Dalton) and soon finds himself wondering where his real connection might be.

Next up is The Wedding Veil Expectations. In the first of the three new movies, Avery (Chabert) and her husband, Peter (Kevin McGarry of When Calls the Heart), are in the midst of renovating an old house they have purchased. Avery has some exciting news to share with Peter but is waiting for just the right moment.

Meanwhile, Avery’s mother-in-law, Grace (played by Karen Kruper), reconnects with a former beau, and Peter has concerns. Between that, the pitfalls of remodeling and navigating the politics of having a new boss at the museum, Avery is lucky to have Emma (Autumn Reeser) and Tracy (Alison Sweeney), who offer support from afar as well as in person when they decide a video chat won’t suffice. When newlywed Tracy returns the antique wedding veil to Emma, the friends may find that they haven’t seen the last of its magic.

    The Wedding Veil Inspiration

In The Wedding Veil Inspiration, Emma (Autumn Reeser) is teaching and working hard to prove she can step into the department chair role, as Paolo’s lace shop is about to open. On track with her life plan, Emma feels strongly that things fall into place before she and Paolo grow their family. As the couple navigates their busy work schedules, Emma bumps heads with the current chair of her department and starts questioning her life choices. With support from Paolo –- and perhaps a little help from the veil — will Emma find the courage to stop planning her life and start living it?

    The Wedding Veil Journey

In The Wedding Veil Journey, Tracy (Sweeney) is now head of the auction house and Nick’s (Webster) restaurant is such a success, he’s looking at expanding. Their success comes at a cost, however, as it gives them little time to see each other. They agree to make time for their long-overdue honeymoon and head to Greece. When a travel delay costs the couple their hotel room, they get the opportunity to stay on a remote island nearby. Is it possible the veil is once again working its magic and bringing them exactly where they need to be?

On Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, a new movie starring Janel Parrish and Niall Matter will premiere on January 8. In Family History Mysteries: Buried Past, Parrish plays Sophie McClaren, a genealogist who is an expert at digging up the past and bringing families together. When her close friend Jonathan (Morgan David Jones) urgently needs to find a bone marrow donor, it brings his twin brother (and Sophie’s old flame) Jackson (Matter), back into her life. With Jackson’s help, Sophie must use her skills to track down the brothers’ long-lost birth father, a man they never even knew existed, in time to save Jonathan’s life. Ultimately, growing closer to Jackson on this search gives Sophie the push to finally explore the mystery of her own adoption.

    Glacier Park Romance

Finally, Glacier Park Romance, starring Ashley Newbrough and Stephen Huszar, will premiere on January 28.

According to a synopsis from the network, “Sparks fly when Hannah (Newbrough), an expert in avalanche forecasting, brings her new technology to Glacier National Park and faces pushback from the director of Mountain Rescue (Huszar), who relies more on intuition and common sense. Their dual approach brings more than forecasting to the forefront of their hearts.”

The Dog Lover’s Guide to Dating will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, January 1 at 8/7c.

The Wedding Veil Expectations will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Friday, January 7 at 8/7c.

  • Pascale Hutton shares throwback photo of Lori Loughlin on When Calls the Heart

Pascale Hutton shares throwback photo of Lori Loughlin on When Calls the Heart

Pascale Hutton gave Hearties a treat when she posted a throwback photo of former castmate Lori Loughlin on When Calls the Heart.

The black-and-white pic, which she posted on her Instagram account, shows Hutton, Loughlin, and actress Erin Krakow posing outside a restaurant.

“If you’re missing #WCTH tonight — here is my gift to you!” Hutton wrote in the caption.

    Fans responded with enthusiasm.

“I hope they bring Abigail back! WCTH is not quite the same without her!” one fan wrote.

“Love seeing you all 3 back together ❤️🙌 bring Abigail back please 😍,” wrote another.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20221208203322/https://www.instagram.com/p/CeJna_sp8Ot/

    Will Loughlin be back?

Loughlin played Abigail Stanton on the Hallmark Channel series When Calls the Heart for six years. Her character, who lost her husband and son in a mining accident, acted as a mentor to Erin Krakow’s Elizabeth.

The cast and crew were in the middle of shooting the show’s sixth season when news of Loughlin’s involvement in a college admissions bribery scandal surfaced. Production halted while writers and producers decided what to do. They eventually wrote Loughlin off the show.

Some fans approved of the move. Others were upset and wanted her back. In a June 2021 interview, Brian Bird, the co-creator of the series, said he was open to having Loughlin on the series again.

“If anyone should return to Hope Valley, it should be Abigail,” he said.

    Appearance on When Hope Calls

Loughlin surprised fans when she made an appearance on When Calls the Heart’s spinoff series When Hope Calls. During the show’s 2021 Christmas special, Loughlin reprised her role as Abigail for two episodes. When fans asked Hallmark if Loughlin would be back on When Calls the Heart, the network was quick to respond.

“Hallmark Channel has not cast Lori Loughlin in any current projects, including When Calls the Heart, nor do we have any plans to cast her in the future. She was cast by GAC Family, a wholly separate cable network not affiliated with Hallmark Channel or Crown Media Family Networks,” read a statement from the network.

At this point, it is unclear if When Calls the Heart will be back for another season. Hallmark has already canceled three of its series. Good Witch aired for the last time in July 2021. Home and Family had its final episode in August 2021. And Chesapeake Shores is currently in production for its sixth and final season.

Fans have made it clear that they want more When Calls the Heart.

“Season 10! Season 10! Season 10!” one wrote on the show’s Facebook page. “#WCTHS10! #Hearties10 #Hearties (more like, 20 more seasons!!)”

  • Alicia Witt gets a pleasant surprise at her post-mastectomy checkup

Alicia Witt gets a pleasant surprise at her post-mastectomy checkup

Hallmark star and breast cancer survivor Alicia Witt got a pleasant surprise recently while waiting to see her doctor.

“didn’t expect to see one of my favorite movies i’ve ever been a part of while i waited for my post-mastectomy checkup,” wrote the actress, author, and musician in an Instagram post.

On the wall, a television was showing her 2013 Hallmark movie A Very Merry Mix.

“What a Godwink,” wrote fellow Hallmark star Nikki De Loach in the comments section.

    Alicia Witt

The actress revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a unilateral mastectomy following six rounds of chemotherapy at the end of 2021. She kept the news to herself until after she finished treatment, even though she was in the public eye following the death of her parents in their Massachusetts home in December.

“i did not want to share this journey until i received the good news,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “i needed to spend every bit of my energy focused on healing. a handful of closest soul companions were my confidantes, my lifeline and my refuge. as i’ve told them — i have no idea how i would have made it through without them.”

She called the experience a blessing.

“These last six months have been the absolute strangest i could ever have imagined,” she wrote. “And amidst this, the biggest of blessings.”

    Breast cancer diagnosis

According to Witt, in the fall of 2021 doctors removed a lump from her breast and performed a biopsy.

“A lump i was told by multiple practitioners, including the one who performed my biopsy, was ‘likely’ nothing to worry about — more on that, and the anomalies we need to look out for, in a later post,” she wrote.

On November 4, she received a call from her doctor.

“Everything else came to a grinding halt as i began a crash course on all i would need to learn,” she said.

    A pleasant surprise

In her most recent Instagram post, Witt said she is still cancer free.

“all is 100% well by the way – thank you god!” she wrote.

Having one of her favorite Hallmark movies on the TV while she waited was a happy coincidence.

A classically trained pianist, Alicia Witt made her onscreen debut in the 1984 movie Dune. She went on to star in the CBS series Cybill and had parts on The Sopranos, Friday Night Lights, and The Walking Dead. She has made several movies for the Hallmark Channel, including Christmas at Cartwright’s (2014), and Christmas Tree Lane (2020).

In A Very Merry Mix-Up, which premiered in 2013, she co-starred with Mark Wiebe and Lawrence Dane.

Ten Hallmark Christmas movies based on books

Countdown to Christmas is on, which means Hallmark Christmas movies are playing around the clock. Though many of the stories in these films are original, some are adapted from bestsellers by authors such as Debbie Macomber, Nancy Thayer, David Baldacci, and Nancy Naigle.

Since we love reading almost as much as we love watching cheesy TV, here is a list of movies based on books and links to where you can find them.

    Nantucket Noel
    Nantucket Noel (Image: Hallmark Media)

    1.Let it Snow (Nantucket Noel)

Sarah Power and Trevor Donovan starred in the film adaption of this charming book, which Hallmark titled Nantucket Noel.

Power plays Christina, a third-generation resident of Nantucket who runs a toy store on one of the town’s wharves. Struggling with the recent death of her mother, Christina finds out that a developer is planning on tearing down her wharf and she begins a campaign to save it from demolition.

Right before Christmas, a handsome businessman named Andy (played by Donovan) visits the island with his daughter. He and Christina connect but she becomes upset when she finds out Andy’s father is the developer trying to destroy the wharf.

Author Nancy Thayer said she believed Hallmark chose her book to adapt into a Christmas movie because it has a message of hope.

“This is a deeply positive book,” she said in an interview with the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror. “My concept of the world is yin/yang. It is half good and half bad, and I think we all have to do what we can to make it 48 percent bad and 52 percent good.”

Nancy has written more than 30 novels and has a great website, which can be found here.

    2. The Nine Lives of Christmas

Based on a novel by the same name, The Nine Lives of Christmas tells the story of a stray cat who wanders into a fire station and ends up bringing together a handsome firefighter and a veterinary student.

Sheila Roberts published the book in 2014 and Hallmark adapted it into a movie later that year.

The film version of The Nine Lives of Christmas was so successful, Hallmark released a sequel, The Nine Kittens of Christmas, in 2021.

    3. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas

Every single title in Debbie Macomber’s Mrs. Miracle series has been turned into a movie by Hallmark. Earlier this year, “Debbie Macomber’s A Mrs. Miracle Christmas” debuted on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, with Caroline Rhea starring as the magical woman who swoops in and helps people restore their faith and Christmas Spirit.

    4. Dashing Through the Snow

Also by Debbie Macomber, this story follows two strangers who agree to share a rental car when their flight home for Christmas is canceled. The movie version stars Meghan Ory and Andrew Walker.

The book gets high marks on Amazon and Goodreads from people who claim they usually don’t read romance novels.

    5. Christmas Joy: A Novel

Christmas Joy is by bestselling author Nancy Naigle, who has had several of her titles adapted into Hallmark movies. Christmas Joy tells the story of a career-focused woman who takes a leave of absence to run her family’s farm at Christmas time. The movie version stars Danielle Panabaker and Matt Long.

Naigle is a prolific writer (check out her website here). Her novels Sand Dollar Cove, Hope at Christmas, and The Secret Ingredient have also been adapted into Hallmark movies. She also wrote the book versions of the Christmas in Evergreen Hallmark movie series.

    6. The Christmas Train

The Christmas Train was written by David Baldacci, another Hallmark favorite. The book chronicles the journey of a disillusioned journalist who is forced to travel from Washington to Los Angeles by train in time for Christmas.

The film version starred Dermot Mulroney, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Danny Glover. One of his other novels, One Summer, was adapted for the screen by Hallmark Movies and Mysteries in 2021.

    7. Silver Bells

Bestselling author Luanne Rice published Silver Bells in 2004 and Hallmark adapted it into a movie starring Anne Heche and Tate Donovan a year later. The story follows widower Christy Byrne, who travels from Novia Scotia to New York City every year to sell his homegrown Christmas trees. He makes a special connection with a woman who hasn’t celebrated Christmas since the year her husband died.

Countdown to Christmas starts this weekend on Hallmark. A December Bride will air

    8. A December Bride

A novella in the Year of Weddings series by Denise Hunter, A December Bride follows Layla, who was jilted by her fiancé for her cousin. When she finds out her ex and her cousin are planning their own wedding, she enlists the help of a friend to pose as her new boyfriend. But things become complicated when the pair develop feelings for each other.

Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing starred in the 2016 film version of the book.

    9. The Christmas Cottage

Based on the novel by Samantha Chase, the Christmas Cottage follows Lacey Quinn, who must decorate her best friend’s family’s cottage for her upcoming wedding. She doesn’t believe the legend that any couple who spends the night in the cottage together will end up together forever. Still, she does get a little nervous when the bride’s brother arrives and they become snowed in.

Merritt Patterson and Steve Lund starred in the 2017 film.

"Finding Father Christmas" (Image: Crown Media)

    10. Finding Father Christmas

The first in a series of three novellas by Robin Jones Gunn featuring the character Miranda Carson, Finding Father Christmas chronicles Carson’s search for her father, which takes her all the way to London.

Erin Krakow played Carson in all three of the Hallmark movies in the series, Finding Father Christmas, Engaging Father Christmas, and Marrying Father Christmas.

    Hallmark Christmas movie

In Haul Out the Holly, Lacey Chabert stars as Emily, a woman who returns home during the holidays after a bad breakup with plans to just relax. But when she arrives, she finds out her parents (played by Carrie Morgan and Peter Jacobson) have plans to go out of town. Just when Emily resigns herself to binge-watching Christmas movies on her own for the week, she finds out she is expected to take her parents’ place in the neighborhood’s holiday festivities.

Wes Brown co-stars as her old friend who is now running the HOA in charge of the Christmas events. When she doesn’t share his enthusiasm for the holidays, he issues her parents an HOA citation.

To work off the penalty, Emily gets involved and finds herself competing with the neighbors, played by Ellen Travolta, Melissa Peterman, and Stephen Tobolowsky.

    Dream come true

John Travolta was quick to promote his sister’s work, sharing a photo of the movie. In his Instagram feed, he shared a photo of himself with Ellen and their sister Ann taken in 1976.

“Thanks for always being by my side!” he wrote.

Ellen Travolta was born in New Jersey in 1939. She had roles in the television shows Medical Center, All In the Family, Happy Days, Visions, One Day at a Time, The Love Boat, Welcome Back, Kotter, Joanie Loves Chachi, and Quincy M.E. • Congratulations to Andrea Brooks! The When Calls the Heart star is expecting her second child.

Congratulations to Andrea Brooks! The When Calls the Heart star is expecting her second child.

Andrea Brooks is pregnant with her second child. The When Calls the Heart star revealed she has been filming Season 10 of the show while expecting.

    Andrea Brooks is pregnant

Brooks, who plays Dr. Faith Carter on Hallmark’s hit series, gave birth to her daughter, Viola, in December 2019. In an interview shortly before Viola’s birth, Brooks said she was trying to keep a level head.

“I’ve been attending my pregnancy classes and trying to avoid spending too much time on Google,” Brooks said. “I’m already a worry-wart, and sometimes the internet keeps me up worrying about some pretty strange things.”

“At this point, I feel like I could almost write a book on how to hide a pregnancy on television.”

    When Calls the Heart cast

Brooks said her co-workers have been incredibly supportive.

    It’s a boy!

Brooks said she is expecting a boy at the end of the year. She has a list of possible names in mind but it is constantly changing.

“Viola, on the other hand, has already named the baby!” she said. “If we’re not careful I’m afraid she might sign the birth certificate on our behalf.”

As for cravings, Brooks said she has been eating lots of hummus and veggies and drinking hot chocolate. During her first pregnancy, she craved pickles, eggnog, and Subway sandwiches.

Erin Krakow still texts me pictures of subs to this day because it was such an integral part of my last pregnancy,” she said.

  • Everything we know about Season 7 of Chesapeake Shores

Everything we know about Season 7 of Chesapeake Shores

Will there be a Season 7 of Chesapeake Shores? Hallmark Channel wrapped up the sixth season of its hit series Chesapeake Shores on October 16. The finale was jam-packed with plot developments. Kevin and Sara have their baby, Evan proposed to Abby, Mick turned the family business over to Abby, Luke and Bree broke up and kinda got back together, and Megan and Mick got remarried.

Most fans were thrilled with the way the story lines wrapped up.

“Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ending to a stunning series!” wrote one Chessie on Facebook. “I sobbed my heart out.”

Some have already decided that six seasons isn’t enough. There are already two petitions on Change.org asking for Hallmark — or Great American Family — to renew the series for Season 7.

    Season 7 of Chesapeake Shores

Chesapeake Shores has been a staple of Hallmark programming since it premiered in 2016. Based on the best-selling books by author Sherryl Woods, the show followed a single mother (Meghan Ory), who returns to her small coastal hometown following a divorce. She is immediately thrown back into the drama of her large family and she reconnects with ex-boyfriend Trace Riley, who was played by Jesse Metcalfe. The show also starred Dianne Ladd as the family’s formidable matriarch, Nell O’Brien, and Barbara Niven and Treat Williams as Abby’s parents. Brendan Penny, Emilie Ullerup, Laci Mailey, Jessica Sipos, and Andrew Francis also starred in the show.

Fans are petitioning for Season 7 of the Hallmark series Chesapeake Shores
Fans are petitioning for Season 7 of the Hallmark series Chesapeake Shores.

For six seasons fans watched the O’Brien family navigate the ups and downs of their lives. Metcalfe dropped out of the series shortly before filming began on Season 5. After his character left town, a handsome, eccentric billionaire (played by Robert Buckley) turned up in Chesapeake Shores. He eventually won over Abby with his charms.

    ‘Comforting and entertaining’

Some fans have decided that more seasons of the show are needed. So far, two petitions have been started on Change.org to save the series.

“‘Chesapeake Shores’ is a family-friendly, family-oriented, comforting and entertaining show that we’d love to see renewed by Hallmark Channel or picked up by another network (Great American Family?)” reads the text of one of two petitions on Change.org. “It’s perfect for the entire family to watch and has an extremely loyal following, even as it closes out its 6th year. For anyone who thinks you can never go home, this show inspires otherwise. And in these trying times, people need this type of uplifting programming to remind them of what’s important. We’re hoping that the producers will either convince Hallmark to change course and renew them for a 7th season, create a spinoff with many of the same characters, or else convince another outlet to pick them up.”

The text of the second petition reads, “For six seasons we have followed the O’Brien family and seen them through many ups and downs. The show can’t end now. Not when there are so many stories left to tell such as Jess and David having a baby and Connor and Margaret representing Dennis Peck for his trial. Please sign this petition so we can see this and so much more. We need this show back. If not for more seasons than at least for a few movies.”

The petitions can be accessed here and here.

Chessies, what do you think? Do we need more of the O’Brien family?

Season 10 of When Calls the Heart will be ‘electrifying’

Erin Krakow and Pascale Hutton promised fans that Season 10 of When Calls the Heart will be one of the best.

“It’s going to be one of the most engaging and electrifying seasons yet,” Krakow wrote in an Instagram post.

“That’s a wrap on the Coulters (all three of them),” wrote Hutton, alluding to her character’s pregnancy on the show. “Oh Hearties — do we have a season for you!!!!!!”

Season 10 of When Calls the Heart

Filming has finished on Season 10 of the hit Hallmark series. The show’s stars have been sharing photos and videos from the set on MacInnes Farms in Langley, British Columbia. (The farm has a great Facebook page, which can be found here.)

“That’s a wrap!” called Jack Wagner in a short video with co-star Kevin McGarry.

In the post that accompanied the video, Wagner wrote, “S10 in the Books!! Incredible to be a part of such a magical show. I hope you all enjoy S10….”

    Sadness, wonderment, hope, and joy

In another post, Krakow quoted her onscreen character.

“Elizabeth Thatcher once said ‘For what is life but a bittersweet mixture of sadness, wonderment, hope, and joy.’ As we wrap our 10th season of @wcth_tv, I’m feeling all of those things and more! 10 seasons of stories & memories, friendship & love, and laughter & tears. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and pride!”

She also thanked Hallmark for continuing to produce the show.

“Thank you @hallmarkchannel for continuing to be such champions of WCTH; we still have lots more stories to tell! Thank you to our crew & cast for your friendship and for all of your hard work this season! And of course thank you to our #Hearties for your unwavering support and passion – we wouldn’t be here without you!”

    Season 11?

Andrea Brooks, who is pregnant with her second child, hinted at the possibility of Season 11.

“Bumping my way across the finish line! Last day of shooting for season 10,” she wrote. “Could not have done it without all the support from this incredible cast and crew. Love you guys to pieces. Thank you @hallmarkchannel for continuing to allow us to tell stories from Hope Valley. Season 11 would be… heaven?”

    (Image: Instagram/@andreakbrooks)

When Calls the Heart premiered on Hallmark Channel in 2014. Based on a series of books by Canadian author Janette Oke, the show followed a wealthy woman, Elizabeth Thatcher (played by Erin Krakow), who moved to a small Canadian mining town to work as a teacher. She fell in love with and eventually married a mountie — short for Royal Canadian Mounted Police —named Jack Thornton (played by Daniel Lissing).

The series has had its share of controversy. At the end of Season 5, Jack Thornton was killed shortly after his wedding to Elizabeth. In Season 6, two men were brought in to replace him, and they vied for Elizabeth’s hand until she chose between them in the Season 8 finale.

Many fans were upset when Elizabeth chose businessman Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) over Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry). Some vowed never to watch the show again.

In August, Hallmark Media Exec VP President of Programming Lisa Hamilton Daly told reporters at a press event that Season 10 of When Calls the Heart would premiere in the middle of 2023.

A trailer for Hallmark’s new TV show The Way Home raises questions among fans

Hallmark’s new TV show The Way Home is set to debut in January and already fans have some questions. The network released a trailer for the series, which will star Andie MacDowell and Chyler Leigh. When it posted the clip to social media, fans immediately responded.

“Every time we get interested in and devoted to a series it gets canceled,” wrote one fan in the comments section.

“No more series for me,” wrote another. “I just start watching then they cancel them.”

Other fans commented on how similar the show seemed to other Hallmark series.

“A mysterious and beautiful woman with magical powers? Sounds like Good Witch to me,” wrote another.

    Hallmark’s new TV show

The Way Home follows the lives of three generations of women – Kat Landry (Leigh), her 15-year-old daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) and Kat’s mother, Del (MacDowell). More than 20 years prior, tragic events prompted Kat to move away from her small, Canadian farm town of Port Haven. She and her mother became estranged for reasons Kat has never shared with her daughter.

With Kat’s marriage coming to an end and having just been laid off from her job, she decides to return home after receiving an unexpected letter from Del urging her to come back. Although Alice is not happy with the decision, Kat and her daughter arrive at her family’s farm, though the reunion isn’t what Kat had envisioned. As the three generations of women slowly work on finding their footing as a family, they embark on an enlightening – and surprising – journey none of them could have imagined.

Though Hallmark has been vague with many details, the network shared that time travel is a big part of the story.

“What if you could see your family before it was broken?” says the narrator in the trailer Hallmark released. “What if the only way forward is to go back?”

The series is being written by the mother-daughter team Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke. The pair, who wrote the script for the Disney Channel movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars, have also collaborated on the award-winning series Heartland.

    MacDowell’s return to Hallmark

From 2013 to 2015, MacDowell starred as Judge Olivia Lockhart on the Hallmark series Cedar Cove.

Hallmark canceled the series after three seasons. In the past two years, Hallmark has canceled two other series. Good Witch ended after seven seasons. Chesapeake Shores finished after six. Fans have been trying to get both series back on the air.

“I’m so disappointed the great series we had were canceled,” wrote a fan on Facebook. “I wish another channel would pick them up the actors didn’t want their series to end.”

“Sounds interesting, looking forward to it. Please give it a chance before canceling,” wrote a fan.

The Way Home will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, January 15 at 9/8c.

Paul Greene may return to When Calls the Heart. The actor, who played Dr. Carson Shepherd on the hit Hallmark series, says he has discussed with producers the possibility of coming back.

“There have been talks about some different approaches to completing that storyline or expanding that,” he said during a recent interview with TV Insider.

A return to When Calls the Heart

Greene played Dr. Carson Shepherd on When Calls the Heart from 2017-2021. His character first arrived in Hope Valley to work on the railway. After an injury left him unable to go back to his old job, he got work at Abigail’s Cafe. He became close to a local nurse, Faith Carter (played by the awesome Andrea Brooks), though he never revealed that he was a doctor.

When Abigail’s adopted son Cody became sick, Shepherd correctly diagnosed him with appendicitis and performed an operation that saved his life. He finally admitted that he was a trained doctor who had stopped practicing medicine after the death of his wife.

He eventually became the town’s doctor and began courting Faith Carter. She eventually left town to pursue her medical studies in Chicago. When she returned to Hope Valley, the two picked up where they left off. Carson Shepherd was ready to propose when he got word that he had been accepted into a prestigious surgical fellowship in Baltimore.

He accepted the fellowship and left Hope Valley — and Faith Carter — far behind.

    In the off-season

Fans were hoping to see Carson Shepherd return in Season 9, but apart from a few mentions by Faith, he wasn’t on the show.

During a May 2021 appearance on “The Bubbly Sesh” podcast, Greene said he wasn’t sure if his character would come back.

“A lot can happen in the off-season,” he said. “There’s a big-time jump in between seasons. Faith’s character became a doctor in the off-season. There’s so much that can happen.”

    Busy year

In his most recent interview, Greene said he’s loved being part of When Calls the Heart, but that he is also busy with other projects. Greene has two Christmas movies coming out this season. In the CBS film Fit For Christmas, he co-stars with Amanda Kloots. In Great American Family’s I’m Glad It’s Christmas, he will share the screen with Gladys Knight and Jessica Lowndes.

“When you’re on a series, you might be able to sneak in one or two things,” he said. “I loved being on it, but there are so many other projects I wanted to do. I helped produce a pilot. I’ve been involved in a film for two years that I’m proud of. If I was on a series, that all wouldn’t happen. I also had a baby and was able to be there for the whole pregnancy. I would never give up any of that for extra seasons. I have my gift…I make music, I have a podcast. I’m writing a parenting book. I try to be as present for all the little things.”
