Hallmark star Nik Sanchez flips the script in new film for Easterseals Disability Film Challenge

Actor Nik Sanchez, who starred alongside Holly Robinson Peete in the 2021 Hallmark movie Our Christmas Journey, is rewriting the narrative when it comes to neurodiversity. The 20-year-old actor and aspiring filmmaker, who describes himself as “awesomely autistic,” is competing in the 2025 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge.

The competition was founded in 2013 by actor, comedian, producer, and disability advocate Nic Novicki.

“I created the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge to help accelerate change within Hollywood and to provide filmmakers and actors with tangible work experience and with an opportunity to tell authentic stories,” he said. “We are proud of the amazing films produced over the past 10 years — viewed around the world — and the successes our participants have gone on to achieve.”

    ‘Free Time’

Sanchez submitted a five-minute film for this year’s challenge, which had the theme ‘Thriller and Suspense.’ His movie, titled ‘Free Time,’ can be viewed here:

Since the competition was founded, more than 750 films have been created by teams from all over the world. Each year a panel of professionals review the films and winners in five categories — Best Film, Best Director, Best Writer, Best Actor and Best Editor — are announced at an awards show in May.

    Born storyteller

A California native, Sanchez was diagnosed at a young age with autism and ADHD. His mother enrolled him in acting classes at the age of five because he enjoyed role-playing.

“The instructor told me I wouldn’t do well because I had the attention span of a gnat,” Sanchez said.

He went on to prove the instructor wrong. At 15, he landed an agent and soon after got his first professional gig on the ABC series The Rookie.

    Hallmark star

Sanchez made history at the age of 17 when he was the first actor on the autism spectrum to feature in a Hallmark film. In Our Christmas Journey, he played Marcus, a young man with autism who wants to move out of his mother’s home into an independent living facility.

In April 2025, Sanchez will appear in The Accountant 2, a film headlined by Ben Affleck. He is also finishing a degree in Film and TV Production.

In an exclusive interview with TV Cheddar, Sanchez talked about his experience with filmmaking and the competition:

TV Cheddar: You submitted a film to the competition last year as well. What did you learn from the experience?

Nik Sanchez: I learned how to be better prepared with my vision for the film. Last time, we started with a 15-page script. At that time, I did not know the script rule of thumb: “1 minute per page.” Luckily, school and other writers I know helped me with this. Last year, we had to make so many cuts leading up to the challenge, and then even some more during the challenge while

shooting and editing. That was frustrating because good pacing was almost impossible to achieve. We had more days to actually shoot, based on our crew members’ availability, but we definitely could have gotten an even better movie if I was more prepared, script wise. I learned from that mistake and went into this year with only a 5-and-a-half page script.

TVC: Last year, the theme was ‘Buddy Comedy.’ This year, it was ‘Thriller and Suspense.’ Did you find this year’s theme more challenging?

NS: I think this year was actually a little easier for me. ‘Free Time’ really resonates with something that I personally struggle with sometimes. As much as I love it, I can be oblivious to the bad side of the online world sometimes. I wanted to create a story about how dangerous the online environment truly can be, with a creepy twist. I had a lot of fun with it.

TVC: You had a short period of time in which to make the film. How did you make it all come together so quickly? How long did it take from start to finish?

NS: Well, based on the challenge rules, we could have used like 3-4 days for shooting. Unfortunately, our crew had limited availability…so we did everything in like 16 hours. Actual shooting time was probably like 10 hours. It was a loooooong and chaotic, but fun shoot. Luckily everyone gets along really well. My mom was the best producer and kept things moving along. And both my moms created the perfect Craft Services [catering], so we had everything we needed to stay hydrated, fueled, energetic, warm — whatever we needed. The entire crew was my actual family, my best friend, Luke and my favorite cinematographer and family friend, Diego. I could not have done this film without their help. Two of my uncles even rearranged their schedules to help me make the creepy shed. They are both so good at that kind of stuff. It’s actually their job, in real life. Even my big sister filled a role through the computer from her college campus, which is like 13 hours from me. So, I am just really lucky to have this kind of support system.

TVC: The movie has a surprise ending — which we won’t reveal here. Without getting into too many details, can you talk about how you came up with the concept?

NS: I really love the ending but it was definitely surprising to me too. The original script didn’t include this ending at all. But we shared the script within the family and thought it originally felt more like a PSA. My mom actually pitched the idea to me for the ending that we went with. She watches A LOT of thrillers and murder shows and cop shows. I was immediately

locked in on the idea. We have a whole concept to build on if we ever get to develop the movie further. All I’ll say, is that you should pay close attention to the small details within the film.

TVC: You have a part in the upcoming movie The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck. What was it like working on a studio film (as opposed to a TV show or TV movie)?

NS: I loved working on that set. Everything was very well organized and accessible too. It was also cast authentically, so there were other neurodivergent people to talk to, which is always awesome. I actually only got this role thanks to Nic Novicki, creator of the Disability Film Challenge. He’s the one who found about the casting call and recommended me along with other autistic actors to this role. Once you’re in the EDFC Community, you really get so many opportunities to further your career. From training, to seminars, to auditions that lead to jobs and more. Nic Novicki is THE BEST.

This is my first studio film so far, so I don’t have too much to compare it to, but I definitely enjoyed this experience. Everyone was so kind. The Director, Gavin [O’Connor], was so cool and funny. He would often ask us for our input on different things about the film. And he would listen and sometimes change things based on our ideas. That felt really good. I’m going to school for Film Production, so if Gavin thinks I have good ideas, I think I’m on the right track. It was truly an awesome and wonderful experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

  • Several new Hallmark movies and shows are coming out soon. Just don’t look for them on cable.

Several new Hallmark movies and shows are coming out soon. Just don’t look for them on cable.

Several new Hallmark movies and shows are coming out soon but don’t look for them on cable.

Some Hallmarkies have gone on social media to protest the fact that the new material, including the new series The Chicken Sisters and Celebrations with Lacey Chabert, will initially air only on the company’s streaming platform and not on its TV channels.

“So now you want me to pay for another app on top of what I pay for cable?” one viewer wrote on Facebook.

“It’s not broken and doesn’t need fixing,” wrote another.

    New Hallmark movies and shows

Hallmark Media recently announced that its subscription streaming platform, Hallmark Movies Now, will be changing names in September. The new service, Hallmark + will feature Hallmark movies and shows that have aired on the company’s networks. It will also feature original content that has not aired on Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery, or Hallmark Family.

Cost for the service will be $79.99 annually or $7.99 if paid on a monthly basis. Hallmark Movies now costs $59.99 annually or $5.99 if paid on a monthly basis.

The new service will also include retail perks including coupons for use in Hallmark stores, free shipping on some online purchases, and free greeting cards.

    Hallmark fans

Some current subscribers have no problem with the price change and have said the extra cost will be worth it.

“Every new announcement about an upcoming movie or series on Hallmark Plus makes me even more excited for the official launch,” one fan wrote on Facebook.

But others are angry that they are hearing all about these new shows and movies when they cannot afford a subscription to Hallmark+.

“I already pay for cable,” one viewer wrote. “I don’t have the money for anything else.”

    Streaming service

Though Hallmark has had a streaming platform for years, the relaunch reflects an attempt to lean into new trends that see viewers fleeing cable packages and instead streaming content from services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

According to Nielsen, a company that tracks television viewership, about 50 percent of TV fans are watching content on streaming platforms rather than on broadcast and cable networks. Some viewers have been put off by the rising cost of cable packages. Others say they don’t want to pay for a bunch of channels they will never watch.

    What to watch where

According to social media posts, Hallmark+ will feature movies and shows that have aired on the company’s television networks. It will also air shows and movies that are not scheduled to air on its networks.

This includes the new series The Chicken Sisters, as well as Celebrations with Lacey Chabert and Finding Mr. Christmas, a new reality series featuring Jonathan Bennett.

“Hallmark+ sets itself apart from the Hallmark channels by providing distinctive content that rarely overlaps with what is airing on the Hallmark channels,” reads a response to fan’s question on Hallmark Movies Now’s Facebook page. “The Hallmark Channels premiere live content where Hallmark+ offers unlimited on-demand viewing of content exclusive to Hallmark+ along with Crown Rewards benefits.”

What is not clear yet is whether any of the original content set to air on Hallmark+ will ever find its way onto the cable networks.

This is an ongoing news story. We will continue to update it as more information becomes available.

  • NFL super star Travis Kelce is a fan of Hallmark movies

NFL super star Travis Kelce is a fan of Hallmark movies

Kansas City Chiefs player (and current beau of Taylor Swift) Travis Kelce is a fan of Hallmark movies. During a recent episode of his podcast, New Heights, the NFL tight end told comedian Andrew Santino that he enjoys the Kansas City-based company’s films.

“Are you a Hallmark guy, Trav?” Santino asked.

“I dabble now. Yeah,” Kelce said.

    Filmmaker

Kelce’s admission that he enjoys a good Hallmark romance movie like the rest of us comes as the football player begins to explore acting and filmmaking.

He recently served as executive producer on the film My Dead Friend Zoe by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, which debuted in March at the 2024 South by Southwest festival. He is also working on a documentary about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Titled King Pleasure, the film will make use of “never-before-seen home movies, notebooks, photographs, animation and interviews,” according to Deadline.

Kelce is also interested in appearing before the camera. In an interview with People magazine, he said he enjoyed his experience hosting Saturday Night Live.

“I just can’t thank them enough for giving me that opportunity, because I didn’t know I was going to enjoy scripted comedy, or that entire entertainment world as much as I did, until I was on a set and going through the week of preparation and stuff like that,” Kelce said.

He’s also one of the hosts of the new game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a spinoff of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

    Hallmark movies

Though Kelce did not mention specific Hallmark movies, he did say he is a “huge fan” of the company, mentioning that it has its headquarters in Kansas City. When Santino asked if he was sure, Kelce replied, “I mean, I’ve been there for…eleven years. I see it all the time.”

Shortly before the 2024 Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs released a spoof trailer for a Hallmark-style movie to promote the team. In the short clip, Jannel Parrish played a woman whose football-obsessed fiancé left her at the altar. Tyler Hynes played a Kansas City Chiefs super-fan who tries to keep his love of the team under wraps while he pursues a romance with her.

The trailer also starred Donna Kelce — mother to Travis and Jason Kelce — as a kindhearted stranger who gives Parrish some friendly advice. The clip went viral on YouTube.

    Hallmark fans

Kelce is not the only celebrity to admit to loving Hallmark movies. In 2021, musician Rob Thomas described himself as a “Hallmark movie geek.”

He said he watched the Hallmark Christmas movies non-stop while working on his album There’s Something About Christmas Time. His favorite is the 2008 rom-com The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, which starred Henry Winkler, Brooke Burns, and Warren Christie.

Kat Barrell and Tyler Hynes show off their roller disco moves in new movie

Kat Barrell and Tyler Hynes get to show off their skating moves in the new Hallmark rom-com Shifting Gears, which premieres this weekend as part of the Spring Into Love lineup.

In a short Instagram video, Hynes and Barrell show off some impressive moves on the roller rink. Hynes, who posted the clip, also teased co-star Kristin Booth.

“If you close your eyes and listen carefully…you can still hear @kristintbooth falling in that roller rink,” Hynes wrote in the caption.

Booth replied with, “@tyler_hynes bahahahaha!! It was quite the fall but worth it to get all that delicious bts footage!

    New movie

In Shifting Gears, Barrell plays mechanic Jess Barro, who runs a garage with her father (played by James Burke). Business is tight thanks to competition from a big auto repair shop chain in town. When she finds out about an auto restoration competition, she enters in the hope of winning the prize money.

But she’s shocked to discover that she will be competing with her ex-boyfriend Luke (played by Tyler Hynes). As the competition revs up, Jess and Luke’s personal rivalry becomes a big hit with the audience and producers alike. After a few misfires, they work through their former relationship and start to bond again over their shared love of classic cars.

“As they speed toward the finish line, Luke has a disastrous painting mishap that threatens to ruin Jess’ chances of winning,” reads a synopsis. “And when she learns his dad plans to buy her family’s garage, she suspects the painting disaster was sabotage rather than an accident. Will their relationship break down again and be beyond repair, or will they be able to restore it and jump-start their romance once again?”

    A family affair

Hynes has had a blast posting footage from the set. In another video, he showed his nieces visiting him behind the scenes.

“Lonely guy,” he wrote in the caption. “Family shows up at work. For the first time ever.”

He was clearly thrilled to see his nieces, Haylie and Ella, and show them around the set.

“Now they don’t answer my calls,” he joked.

He also posted a tribute to his mother (which can be viewed here) when she came to visit.

“Her love of going to the movies, which she passed to me, is surpassed only by her love of seeing them being made,” he wrote.

    Make Her Mark

Shifting Gears was directed by Crystal Lowe (yes, of Signed, Sealed, Delivered fame) as part of Hallmark’s Make Her Mark directing program. Initiated by Ashley Williams, the program allows aspiring female directors to work with experienced women filmmakers on Hallmark movies.

Lowe has posted regularly from the set, thanking just about everyone who worked on the film.

“I’m so stoked that I can finally share the journey of directing with all of you!” she wrote in an Instagram post. “This was the beginning!! Meet @scott891 one of the other producers on #shiftinggears who held my hand during the stress and excitement of prep! Prepare yourselves to come on the journey with me and meet all of the incredible people that made this movie happen!!”

  • New Hallmark movie transports viewers to Italy

New Hallmark movie transports viewers to Italy

The new Hallmark movie A Very Venice Romance will premiere as part of the network’s Fall Into Love lineup.

The romantic comedy, which stars Stephanie Leonidas and Raniero Monaco Di Lapio, was filmed on location in Italy.

    New Hallmark movie

In A Very Venice Romance, Stephanie Leonidas stars as Amy, a New York City executive trying to launch a healthy deliverable meal prep service. She decides that celebrity chef Marcello (Monaco Di Lapio) would be the perfect person to help her develop the meals but when she approaches him with a pitch, he turns her down.

Amy decides to go to Italy and speak with Marcello in person. She enrolls as a student at his academy and meets an interesting cast of characters as she learns to cook.

Marcello introduces her to the slow-paced pleasures of Italy and convinces her that meal prep kits should use fresh ingredients instead of supplements but Amy’s boss isn’t convinced.

“Will Amy follow her instincts and her heart, or will she stay quiet to keep her job?” reads a synopsis from Hallmark Channel.

    Stephanie Leonidas

Stephanie Leonidas was born in London and began her acting career doing community theater. She has appeared on the TV shows Down to Earth, Holby City, Daddy’s Girl, Revelations, Empire, American Gothic, and Van Der Valk.

From 2013 to 2015 she starred on the Syfy series Defiance, which was based on a video game. In an interview, the actress said the show was appealing both because of its groundbreaking nature — the story lines on the show and the game intersected — but also because it was, at its heart, a story about humanity.

“What I loved about the script was that, even though it was about aliens, and there was a lot of shooting and fighting, it wasn’t predominantly about that stuff,” she told Collider. “There was a real human drama to it. The aliens have heart, and it felt like it was something that people could relate to more than just watching a bunch of aliens, post-apocalypse, not really getting on. It just had so much more to it.”

    Raniero Monaco Di Lapio

Raniero Monaco Di Lapio has starred in the TV shows So che ritornerai, Taljanka, I Medici 3, Che Dio ci Aiuti 5, and Guida Astrologica per Cuori Infranti.

Chessies and Hearties get the crossover they’ve been waiting for in new Hallmark movie The Wedding Cottage

Brendan Penny and Erin Krakow promoted their new Hallmark movie The Wedding Cottage in a Facebook Live event, with Krakow pointing out that it was a crossover film for fans of Chesapeake Shores and When Calls the Heart.

“How exciting is it that the Hearties and the Chessies are going to have a little crossover moment?” she said.

Brendan Penny starred for six seasons on the Hallmark series Chesapeake Shores. Krakow headlines Hallmark’s longest-running original series When Calls the Heart.

    New Hallmark movie

In the new Hallmark movie The Wedding Cottage, Krakow and Penny star as opposites who attract. Krakow plays Vanessa, a wedding planner who promotes her book by holding a contest to give one lucky couple an all-expenses paid wedding.

The winning couple, played by Drew Henderson and Matreya Scarrwener, are in a hurry to tie the knot, as he is about to get deployed. She contacts the home’s new owner, a reclusive sculptor named Evan (played by Penny).

He is reluctant to let his house be used as a venue, but Vanessa’s persistence wears him down. As they prepare for the big day, Vanessa and Evan find out that the cottage is a special place for the people of Stony Brook. They also begin to develop feelings for each other.

During the Facebook Live event, Penny and Krakow talked about how much fun they had making The Wedding Cottage.

“It was a lot of laughter,” Krakow said.

“Every day on set was just super fun,” Penny said.

Both actors said they were excited to find out they would be working together.

“It was kind of shocking that we hadn’t worked together yet,” Penny said.

  • The Young and the Restless star Hunter King calls working with Hallmark a dream come true in exclusive interview with TV Cheddar

The Young and the Restless star Hunter King calls working with Hallmark a dream come true in exclusive interview with TV Cheddar

In an exclusive interview with TV Cheddar, The Young and the Restless star Hunter King talked about her latest movie for Hallmark Channel and how working with the network is a dream come true.

“Hallmark movies have always been like an escape to me,” she said. “You can always count on them to make you smile and leave you feeling better than before you turned it on. I thought it would be cool to be able to make people feel the same way that I felt when I watched them.”

    The Professional Bridesmaid

The Emmy Award-winning actress stars in the new romantic comedy The Professional Bridesmaid, which will premiere as part of Hallmark Channel’s Spring Into Love programming event.

King plays Maggie Bailey, a woman who is so good at navigating the emotional and logistical hurdles of pulling off a wedding that she works as a professional bridesmaid.

When the mayor hires her to work at his daughter’s high-profile wedding, Maggie takes on the challenge, knowing that she needs to keep her identity a secret. The whole situation becomes even more complicated when a handsome reporter (played by Chandler Massey) starts poking around looking for a scoop.

    Hunter King

Hunter King got her start as a child actress. While starring on the Nickelodeon series Hollywood Heights, she was cast as Summer Newman on the soap opera The Young and The Restless.

She was nominated for her first Emmy Award while she was still a tween. She took home the award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series in both 2014 and 2015. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, she said she keeps one of the awards in her bathroom.

“It’s just a good conversation starter when people come over and they’re like, ‘Wait, what? An Emmy’s in the bathroom?’” she said.

Hunter King and Rhiannon Fish will star in the new Hallmark movie Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths

    Working with Hallmark

In addition to starring on The Young and The Restless, King appeared on the CBS series Life in Pieces. In 2022, she starred in the Hallmark Channel movies Hidden Gems and A Royal Corgi Christmas, as well as the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries film Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths.

King said she has wanted to work for Hallmark since she was a child.

“Growing up, I would drive past Hallmark’s headquarters nearly every day and dream about getting the chance to be in one of their movies some day,” she said.

    Interview with TV Cheddar

TVC: The concept for this film — a woman working as a professional bridesmaid — is fantastic. What was your reaction when you first read the script?

HK: I loved the script as soon as I read it. It’s such a cute story and the chemistry between the characters was there on the page already. I love romantic comedies and this film felt like one of those. Even just reading it I couldn’t wait to see what happened at the end!

TVC: Though Maggie is a pro at what she does, the wedding she is planning is under a lot of scrutiny. The stakes get even higher when a reporter (played by Chandler Massey) starts digging into her identity. Are there any particular moments you think viewers will find funny or memorable?

HK: Some really funny beats happen with the Mayor’s assistant Thomas. Thomas is very protective of the Mayor so he’s always on edge around Maggie, basically warning her not to screw this up. There were definitely a couple takes where I couldn’t keep a straight face in some of those scenes. A really memorable moment happens when Thomas looks to Maggie for help so that Henry (the reporter) doesn’t corner the mayor for an interview. The scene that follows is one of my favorites. Let’s just say…Chandler is a really good dancer.

TVC: What was it like working with Chandler Massey?

HK: I absolutely loved getting to work with Chandler Massey. He’s just such a sweet human and a true gentleman. Chandler was so much fun to work with and would always come back with the funniest responses during rehearsals. I really hope we get to work together again in the future.

TVC: You once mentioned that growing up you would drive past Hallmark headquarters and dream about being in a Hallmark movie someday. What was it about Hallmark that appealed to you? What is it like to have that dream come true?

HK: Hallmark movies have always been like an escape to me. You can always count on them to make you smile and leave you feeling better than before you turned it on. I thought it would be cool to be able to make people feel the same way that I felt as when I watched them. To be a part of the Hallmark family really does feel like a dream. Your job is to make people laugh, smile, and feel good. What’s not to love about that?

Hunter King and Chandler Massey in The Professional Bridesmaid. (Image: Hallmark Media)

TVC: Um, weird question, but do you still keep one of your Emmy awards in the bathroom?

HK: I do! Most of my guests have seen it before so they’re used to it now, but occasionally guests will walk out with it. And the first thing people always say is “This is way heavier than I thought.”

TVC: Finally, what do you hope viewers take away from The Professional Bridesmaid?

HK: I hope people watching can feel how much fun we had making this movie. The crew and the cast were all so much fun to work with and I hope people can feel that from us. Also, I think the movie is a great reminder that beautiful things can happen with you’re able to be vulnerable.

The Professional Bridesmaid will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, April 8 at 8/7c.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hudon said the wedding was on her favorite holiday.

  • Give the dog a show! Tyler Hynes and his dog have fans cracking up during Facebook Live event to promote new Hallmark movie

Give the dog a show! Tyler Hynes and his dog have fans cracking up during Facebook Live event to promote new Hallmark movie

Tyler Hynes recently went on Facebook Live to answer questions about A Picture of Her, his new romantic comedy for Hallmark. But it soon became clear that the audience only had eyes for his dog.

Loyal bro Rusty James was hanging out on a dresser just behind Hynes, and his reactions to his dad’s comments had viewers in stitches.

“Sorry Tyler, Rusty James definitely stole the show,” wrote one fan in the comments section. “And he made sure you were aware of it. Tap…tapping on your shoulder. Both you guys nailed FB Live!”

“I love to hear you talk to him,” another wrote. “RJ all day every day!”

    Tyler Hynes

Hynes was on Facebook to promote A Picture of Her, his new Spring Into Love rom-com. Co-star Rhiannon Fish was unable to make the appearance, so Hynes called in Rusty James to hang out with him.

While Hynes sang the praises of his co-star, calling Rhiannon Fish a “truly exceptional human being” and a “truly talented artist,” Rusty James lolled about in the background.

At one point, he tapped Hynes on the shoulder.

    “You good, pal?” Hynes asked.

The dog, the myth, the legend: Rusty James

Rusty James, who appears to be a black Pomeranian, eventually indicated he wanted to get off the dresser. Once Hynes put him on the ground and made sure he had his dental stick (proving there is nothing more swoon-worthy than a dog dad), Rusty James continued to make his presence known.

Hynes indicated that the dog was staring at him, asking to be let outside.

    New Hallmark movie

In between exchanges with Rusty James, Hynes spoke about his new movie, which will premiere as part of Hallmark Channel’s Spring Into Love lineup.

In A Picture of Her, Hynes plays a photographer named Jake who snaps a picture of Rhiannon Fish’s character Beth. Unaware that she has had her picture taken, Beth is shocked when her image graces the cover of an award-winning magazine. She becomes determined to track down the man who took the picture.

“One of the things I loved about this story is…this idea that in our modern age, people might not have the time nor the impetus to care about the simpler, finer things in our world,” Hynes said.

What it’s like to date Tyler Hynes

In addition to sharing his insights on the movie, Hynes answered some questions about what he considers the perfect date.

“I think I like when things go the way they’re supposed to and if you don’t quite know how that evening is going to go down, then it’s all the more fun,” he said.

He then added, “A motorcycle ride through the hills is never a bad idea.”

A Picture of Her will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, March 25 at 8/7c.

  • Jodie Sweetin’s new Hallmark movie is a mystery

Jodie Sweetin’s new Hallmark movie is a mystery

Full House star Jodie Sweetin has a new Hallmark movie in the works. The actress took to social media to share that she recently filmed a movie for Hallmark Media.

“I was very quiet in February,” she said in a video shared on Instagram. “I was in Toronto working, I was doing a new Hallmark movie which is gonna come out this spring. It’s a mystery movie, so something a little bit different. There is no Christmas in this one. It’s a Hallmark mystery movie. The Jane De Silva mystery is going to be coming this spring. So I’ll keep you guys all posted on that.”

    New Hallmark movie

Jane Da Silva is the star of a series of novels by author K.K. Beck. A highbrow widow, Da Silva returns from living in Europe when her wealthy uncle dies. She discovers that to qualify for her inheritance, she must help a secret society her uncle helped found that is dedicated to aiding and abetting lost causes.

The first book in the series, A Hopeless Case, was published in 1992. Three other books soon followed: Amateur Night (1993), Electric City (1994), and Cold Smoked (1995).

“There’s no Christmas in this one”

Sweetin has starred in several romantic comedies for Hallmark, including Finding Santa (2017), Entertaining Christmas (2018), Love Under the Rainbow (2019), Merry & Bright (2019), and a Cozy Christmas Inn.

This is her first mystery for the network.

    From Full House to Hallmark

Sweetin played Stephanie Tanner on the hit series Full House from 1987 to 1995. She had guest roles on the TV shows Party of Five, Brotherly Love, and Yes, Dear. In 2016 she joined her former Full House cast mates for the reboot Fuller House. She also appeared on Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars.

In July 2022, Sweetin married Mescal Wasilewski in a small wedding at a home in Malibu. Her former Full House co-stars Candace Cameron Bure, John Stamos, and Andrea Barber attended.

Sweetin, who has two daughters from previous relationships, told People magazine that marrying her partner was more important than having the perfect wedding.

“If everything falls apart and we walk away from this and we’re married, that’s really all I care about. So it’s kind of nice to be in that place where I’m like, ‘If this doesn’t happen, if that doesn’t happen…,’” she said. “I have no doubts that it will all come together beautifully, but whatever. [If] something goes wrong, as long as I can walk away and we’re still married and that’s all that matters, then I’m good.”

Alexa PenaVega’s new Hallmark movie takes viewers to the most romantic city in the world

Alexa PenaVega’s new Hallmark movie will premiere as part of the Loveuary lineup. The movie, A Paris Proposal, takes viewers on a trip through the most romantic city in the world.

“I think it’s the perfect place to put these two characters,” PenaVega said in an interview to promote the movie.

“It’s an incredibly romantic city,” said her co-star Nicholas Bishop. “…People will enjoy these two characters pretend that they don’t like each other.”

    New Hallmark movie

In A Paris Proposal, Alexa PenaVega stars as Anna, an account executive with a New York advertising agency. She gets the chance to land the biggest client of her career, Durand Diamonds, but finds out that to pitch her ideas she must travel to Paris with her colleague Sebastien.

Paris already holds painful memories for Anna. She and her ex-husband spent their honeymoon there before a painful split. The trip is further complicated by her co-worker, whose laid-back approach to work is in sharp contrast to her own no-nonsense style.

When Sebastien tells the client that he and Anna are married, she must keep the charade to keep Durand interested. But the more time she spends with her co-worker, the more she realizes that he might be the perfect fit.

  • Lacey Chabert shares epic pic of her Hallmark boyfriends

Lacey Chabert shares epic pic of her Hallmark boyfriends

Lacey Chabert shared an epic pic of herself with four of the men who have played her boyfriends in Hallmark movies.

“When you run into many of your Christmas movie boyfriends at the same time,” she wrote in a caption of the picture, which shows her with Wes Brown, Brennan Elliott, Will Kemp, and Paul Greene.

Fellow Hallmark star Holly Robinson Peete responded with laughing emojis. Rachel Boston weighed in with, “Hahahaha.”

Brendan Penny, who starred with Chabert in the 2018 Countdown to Christmas movie Pride, Prejudice & Mistletoe also commented.

    “All of them?…” he wrote.

Chabert responded with, “@therealbrendan_penny MOST. Horrible typo. Apologies.”

    Lacey Chabert

In a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chabert revealed that she had starred in 33 movies for Hallmark.

“Now, more than ever, like, we just need some goodness in the world,” Chabert said. “People come up to me all the time and they go, ‘You know, it’s my husband and I, it’s our favorite thing to do together. This movie has helped bring my family together.’ So I consider it an honor to be a part of.”

Fallon said he had seen every single movie she had made for Hallmark.

“I watch them with my dad,” he said.

Chabert then asked if he wanted to be in one.

“Like, I have some stuff next year,” she said. “I would love to be in one with you.”

    Hallmark boyfriends

The photo of Chabert with her co-stars was taken at Christmas Con 2022, where Hallmark actors met fans and promoted their latest projects.

Wes Brown and Chabert starred in the 2022 Countdown to Christmas favorite Haul Out the Holly. Brennan Elliott and Chabert starred in the All Of My Heart series of movies, which includes All Of My Heart (2015), All Of My Heart: Inn Love (2017), and All Of My Heart: The Wedding (2018). Elliott and Chabert also co-starred in the Crossword Mysteries series on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.

Will Kemp and Chabert starred in the 2019 movie Love, Romance & Chocolate and the 2020 Countdown to Christmas movie The Christmas Waltz. Paul Greene and Chabert starred in the 2016 movie A Wish For Christmas.

Chabert has also starred in Winter in Vail and Sweet Carolina with Tyler Hynes; Christmas in Rome with Sam Page; Christmas at Castle Hart and Time For Us to Come Home For Christmas with Stephen Huszar; and My Secret Valentine with Andrew Walker.

In 2022, Chabert co-starred with Alison Sweeney, Autumn Reeser, and When Calls the Heart star Kevin McGarry in the Hallmark trilogy The Wedding Veil. Chabert recently announced that three new movies in The Wedding Veil series will premiere in January.

  • Three new Wedding Veil movies are coming to Hallmark

Three new Wedding Veil movies are coming to Hallmark

Hallmark is filming three new Wedding Veil movies. Star Lacey Chabert revealed the news during a recent appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show.

“We’re going to be back,” Chabert said.

The Wedding Veil trilogy, which aired earlier this year on Hallmark, starred Chabert, Alison Sweeney, and Autumn Reeser, as three college friends who discover an antique wedding veil rumored to bring true love to its owner. In The Wedding Veil, Chabert’s character meets the man of her dreams. In the sequel, The Wedding Veil Unveiled, it was Reeser’s turn to meet a handsome stranger. And in The Wedding Veil Legacy, Sweeney found her happily ever after. The movies were among the network’s most-watched films of the year.

    Three new Wedding Veil movies

During her appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show, Chabert talked about how happy she was to appear in Hallmark movies.

“I think now, more than ever, like, we just need some goodness in the world,” Chabert said. “People come up to me all the time and they go, ‘You know, it’s my husband and I, it’s our favorite thing to do together. This movie has helped bring my family together.’ So I consider it an honor to be a part of.”

Chabert shared with the audience that she had starred in 33 movies for Hallmark Media. Fallon claimed to have seen every one of them.

“I watch them with my dad,” he said.

Chabert then asked if he wanted to be in one.

“Like, I have some stuff next year,” she said. “I would love to be in one with you.”

    Wedding Veil Trilogy

The Wedding Veil trilogy made headlines when it premiered on the Hallmark Channel in January 2022. Fans were excited to see three of their favorite stars together in three different movies.

And while the focus of each movie was true love, Chabert said that the story was really about the friendship between the women.

“I think the sisterhood is at the heart of these stories,” Chabert said during a Facebook Live event to promote the third film.

Reeser agreed, saying that the relationship between the three characters reminded her of her own friendships in real life.

“The love stories that have meant the most to me in my life are the love stories between me and my friends,” she said. “I think friendship gets put in a second-place position and for so many of us, those are the relationships that carry us through our life.”

    New movies

Chabert didn’t reveal much about the new Wedding Veil movies, other than the fact that the first one will premiere in January 2023.

  • Hallmark’s Three Wise Men and a Baby is the most-watched cable movie of the year

Hallmark’s Three Wise Men and a Baby is the most-watched cable movie of the year

The Hallmark Christmas comedy Three Wise Men and a Baby is the most-watched cable movie of the year, according to Nielsen ratings.

The movie, which starred Andrew Walker, Tyler Hynes, and Paul Campbell, premiered on November 19 during Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas lineup.

According to the ratings, it was ad-supported cable’s most-watched movie of the year to date among homes, viewers, women 18+, persons 18+, women 25-54, and women 18-34. It averaged 2.9 million homes, 411,000 women 25-54, and 3.6 million total viewers, according to Nielsen.

Three Wise Men and a Baby

In the movie, a self-absorbed firefighter Luke (Walker) discovers a baby left in his station with a note asking him to look after the child. He brings the baby home to his mother (played by Margaret Colin) who agrees to look after him. But when she gets called out of town unexpectedly, Luke must look after the infant with help from his brothers, played by Hynes and Campbell.

The premise was a departure from the typical single-woman-finds-love-at-the-holidays formula Hallmark Media has become so famous for. But it worked, according to fans.

“This is the BEST!” wrote one fan on Facebook. “Team those three up, again!”

“Hallmark, you got a winner with this movie!! If you haven’t seen it, watch it!! wrote another.

    The trio movie

Hallmark found similar success when it paired up three of its other big names, Alison Sweeney, Lacey Chabert, and Autumn Reeser, in The Wedding Veil trilogy. In those romantic comedies, three best friends experienced the mystery of a lace veil rumored to bring true love to its owner.

The movie was inspired in part by fans. Chabert said that fans often asked her if they would see some sort of cross-over movie, with more than one Hallmark leading lady.

Those films did so well that Hallmark tried its hand with three leading men. The gamble paid off.

“Belly laughs,” wrote one fan. “Absolutely adorable movie!”

Walker, Hynes, and Campbell managed to raise a lot of hype for the movie from their on-set antics. In a TikTok video that went viral, the three stars emerged from their trailers wearing elf costumes. Assuming macho poses, they then strutted off together as the George Baker Selection’s hit “Little Green Bag” played in the background.

Three Wise Men and a Baby will air throughout the Christmas season. The next showtime is Saturday, November 26 at 4/3c.

  • Alison Sweeney talks about a new Murder, She Baked movie

Alison Sweeney talks about a new Murder, She Baked movie

In a recent interview, Hallmark star Alison Sweeney talked about the possibility of a new Murder, She Baked movie. Sweeney, who plays amateur sleuth Hannah Swensen in the franchise, said she will do what she can to make sure the series continues.

“…Believe me, I am a big fan of Hannah Swensen and if I can make that happen, I will,” she told Us magazine.

Hallmark last released a Hannah Swensen movie in August 2021. Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery was the six movie in the series, which are based on the cozy mystery books by author Joanne Fluke.

A new Murder, She Baked movie

Sweeney, who starred in the 2022 Countdown to Christmas movie A Magical Christmas Village, said she enjoys playing baker-turned-sleuth Swensen.

“I love making those movies,” she said during an interim with Us magazine. “Those are my favorites to be honest.”

Hallmark released the first of the movies, Murder, She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery, in 2015. The film followed bakery owner Hannah Swensen, who finds her friend and delivery driver, Ron (Jason Cermak), shot to death behind her shop. Swensen helps local police detective Mike Kingston — played by Cameron Mathison — to solve the murder.

Four more movies followed: Murder, She Baked: A Plum Pudding Mystery (2015), Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery (2016), Murder, She Baked: A Deadly Recipe (2016), Murder, She Baked: Just Desserts (2017). Fans had to wait four years for a new movie. In Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, Sweeney’s character was preparing for her wedding to Mike when she finds a dead body.
    .

Sweeney said she would love to make more of the Chronicle Mysteries series.

“I love that series. I love that show,” she said. “Unfortunately, it’s, like, not my decision. But believe me, if ever there was interest, I would be ready to take it up again.”

    Canceled Hallmark mysteries

Hallmark mystery fans were shocked earlier this year to find out that several of their favorite mystery series were canceled.

“I just found out that Hailey Dean is done at Hallmark,” Kellie Martin wrote on Twitter. “Really sad and sorry to report.

Also canceled were the Matchmaker Mysteries and the Picture Perfect Mysteries.

Fans found out that Aurora Teagarden was also finished when Candace Cameron Bure announced she was leaving Hallmark to work with the new family-friendly entertainment company Great American Media.

    Alison Sweeney

Alison Sweeney rose to fame playing Samantha “Sami” Brady on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives. She also hosted the series The Biggest Loser from Season 4 to Season 16.

In addition to the Murder, She Baked and Chronicle Mysteries movies, Sweeney has starred in the Hallmark films Love on the Air, The Irresistible Blueberry Farm, Christmas at Holly Lodge, and Time For You to Come Home For Christmas.

  • Behind the scenes of the Hallmark movie Moriah’s Lighthouse

Behind the scenes of the Hallmark movie Moriah’s Lighthouse

If you’ve ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes in a Hallmark movie, now’s your chance. Author Serena B. Miller kept a blog of her experience on the set of the Hallmark movie based on her novel Moriah’s Lighthouse.

The movie, which was filmed on location in France will premiere as part of the network’s Summer Nights lineup. The film stars Rachelle Lefevre and Luke Macfarlane.

In a 10-part series on her website, Miller wrote about everything from being approached by a director who wanted to turn her work into a film, to staying in France and watching filming on set.

    (Image: serenebmiller.com)

The bestselling author said she was “cautiously excited” when director Terry Cunningham reached out to her about Moriah’s Lighthouse.

“I knew the chances for an author getting a book turned into a finished movie was roughly around the same as getting struck by lightning,” she wrote.

But after a few meetings, it looked like the movie was going to come together. And then, she wrote, COVID hit.

“The deadline to renew the option agreement came and went,” she wrote. “I assumed the project had been cancelled. Fast forward in time. Covid eases up. Terry calls. The project is back on! He and Paul have been asked to write a script for Moriah’s Lighthouse. Big news–the movie will be filmed at a lighthouse in France!”

Racehelle Lefevre and Luke Macfarlane star in the Hallmark Channel movie Moriah's Lighthouse.

On the set of the Hallmark movie Moriah’s Lighthouse

In Moriah’s Lighthouse, an artisan woodworker sets her sights on rebuilding an old lighthouse in France. She gets some help when an American architect arrives in town and the two begin working together.

The location is a central part of the story, so Miller was thrilled when she arrived on set.

“Huge red granite boulders are scattered everywhere, as though tossed there by a giant hand,” she wrote. “The original lighthouse was built in 1860 but was destroyed by the Germans during WWII. This newer lighthouse was rebuilt in 1946.”

Miller talked about meeting the stars of the movie, and how gracious they were.

“I thank Rachelle for agreeing to be in this movie,” she wrote. “She thanks me for ‘writing the book that brought us here!’”

When she met Macfarlane, she found out he knew quite a bit about woodworking himself.

“He tells me that his grandfather was a cabinet maker and taught him,” she wrote. “When he moved to Los Angeles, he took classes in carpentry so that he could remodel his L.A. house.”

    Busy schedule

One of the things that struck Miller about the movie-making process was just how much needed to get done in only three weeks. She was also surprised at how physically demanding the process was. One day, she was standing on the set when she noticed two people who weren’t moving:

“I’m simply standing still, observing, making notes and trying to stay out of the way. Then I notice there are two people who also are not rushing around. A young man and woman stand patiently in the middle of the dining room while others buzz around them. Then they take a few steps and stand some more. Stand, move. Stand, move. It takes me a moment to realize they are standing in for the two main actors. Not only does movie making take experience and talent, it requires an amazing amount of sheer endurance.”

To find out more about Miller’s experience, check out her blog here.

Moriah’s Lighthouse will premiere on Saturday, June 18 on Hallmark Channel at 8/7c.

Everything you need to know about Hallmark Channel’s Romance to the Rescue

Hallmark Channel’s Romance to the Rescue will premiere as part of the network’s May rom-com lineup. The movie stars When Calls the Heart’s Andrea Brooks, Marcus Rosner, and Nathan Witte.

Hallmark Channel’s Romance to the Rescue

In the movie, Brooks plays Kyra, a goal-oriented woman who knows what she’s looking for in her career and her love life. When a new manager named Trevor (Witte) joins the staff at the grocery store where she works, she becomes convinced he is “the one.” A well-meaning friend finds out that Trevor is an animal lover and tells him that Kyra trains agility dogs. He becomes fascinated and encourages her to participate in an agility contest the store is sponsoring. There’s just one problem: Kyra’s friend made the whole thing up. Kyra knows next to nothing about dogs, and she certainly isn’t a trainer.

In an attempt to keep up the cover story, Kyra adopts a dog from a local shelter. But when her attempts to train the dog backfire, she turns to the head of the shelter, Kevin (played by Rosner), for help.

The more time she spends with Kevin, the more confused Kyra becomes. If Trevor is “the one,” why is she having so much fun with Kevin?

Brooks promoted the movie on Instagram. She posted a photo with director Heather Hawthorn-Doyle and a stuffed stand-in dog they used during filming.

“Words can’t begin to describe how much I ADORE working with director extraordinaire @hhdtvis!” she wrote. “Here we are with our ‘love puppy’ stand-in!”

Brant Daugherty is a Hallmark veteran. He starred in the movies Mingle All the Way, Timeless Love, and The Nature of Romance. He has also had roles on the TV shows Pretty Little Liars, Freakish, and Relationship Status.

During a 2021 with Access Hollywood, Daughterty talked about how his wife went into early labor while he was on location filming the Hallmark movie The Baker’s Son.

The film was supposed to wrap two days before his wife’s due date.

“I thought, I’ll take the film as a way of providing for my family, and hopefully I’ll make it,” he said. “A lot of first babies come late.”

But his wife ended up going into labor early. Daugherty called her in between every take. Finally, after 30 hours in labor, she opted for a C-section, which Daugherty was able to watch on a FaceTime call.

“It was a little intense,” he said in an interview with Hallmark. “I was doing my best to hold it together from a thousand miles away.”

    Premiere date

A Royal Runaway Romance will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, April 9 at 8/7c.
